Ok, so we have a dog on our team now. Great. I don't even like dogs very much, and my dislike of them seemed to have increase now that I was part cat. I just hoped he wouldn't start chasing me...
Our team leader was....ok, I guessed. He seemed just as uncaring as some of my teammates, even though he was supposed to help us out, he just left us in the woods.
Tick....tick....tick
I looked down at my hand, which now had a watch. Or a timer, that was counting down. I froze, a timer?! What was I supposed to do?! Everyone had ran off already, leaving me alone in the woods, with the terrifying sounds of tag all around me. Tag wasn't supposed to be life-or-death!!!
I heard ragged breathing behind me and a split-second later, the smell of rotting meat hit me and I coughed. Heavy footsteps sounded, along with twigs snapping and the stench grew stronger. Slowly I turned around.
A giant rat. That's what it was. And it had claws like knives, little red eyes, and was so huge and disgusting I almost gagged. It hissed at me, an evil sound, so I, naturally, hissed right back at it, my tail puffing up. That seemed to anger the rat, so it growled, low and long. The ground under me vibrated with the sound. I blinked, no way I could match that, so I tentatively took a step towards it, the timer was still on my hand after all. It narrowed its little red eyes and continued to glare at me as I took another step, then another, not breaking my gaze from its. Once I was just close enough to it to stretch out my arm and tap one of its grotesque paws, I did so, and my little timer appeared on its arm. I almost smiled.
"Hey you big ugly rat, you're it" I said softly, backing up a little.
It looked at its paw, the little timer still ticking away as if nothing had happened. The rat didn't seem to understand at first then a look of astonishment crossed its wrinkled face. It was going to explode. Looking up at me, it growled again, this time louder, making the leaves in the trees around us shake, and reached out at me.
I ran. As fast as I could. I heard the frustrated roar of the rat behind me as it groped in empty air, then pounded after me. At first I was sure that I could run for three minutes without much effort, but the rat was fast and soon nearly caught me, so I sped up. At max speed I couldn't run for too long before I tired out, and I began to worry. The rat didn't seem to tire for it kept its pace, snarling at me all the while.
"Help!!!" I wailed, scared that it would catch me. I saw two figures in the trees and headed towards them.
"Help me!" and they turned around, I saw that they were from our team. "Saki!" yelled one of them and he sprang onto the rat, which fell. A second timer appeared on the rat's arm, both just a few seconds before 0:00, the end. Distracted by the bot and rat, I tripped over a root and fell, stunned. An explosion sounded behind me, I felt the heat from it wash over me, and heard a solid thump, then a softer one near me. I looked up to see Joker, the one who had saved me, stagger to his feet. He was covered in burns though. I got up as well, unsteady, and my eyes welled up.
I hugged him, nearly knocking him over. "Thankyou so much!" I sobbed, unable to contain myself. "I...I thought it was going to kill me" Letting go of him, I looked up at his face, my vision blurred by tears. But even through them I could clearly see the burns, bright and painful-looking on his face. New tears slid down my face, he was hurt because of me.
I looked around quickly, trying to find aloe or a river or something to soothe the burns with, a nice glittering stream bed not to far off so I ran over to it, found a little dagger attached to a belt loop of my pants, cut off the bottom edge of the shirt I had on under my sweatshirt and soaked it in the ice-cold water, then ran back to Joker, picking up his hat on the way. I dusted the top hat off, reached up(having to stand in tip-toe) and put it on his head then stepped in front of him and pressed the wet cloth to a burn on his cheek.
