Chapter I: Siege of Vylanthia

I was awoken by a tremor; somewhat farther from my position, but somehow- I felt it."Did you feel that?" I asked my associate. She shook her head slowly. "I honestly don't know wha-" She was cut off before even completing her sentence, the wall above us crumbling with bits of rock and dust surrounding us.
"We've been breached! Everyone, prepare for combat!"

I looked towards where the announcement had been made to see Lorena, the leader of our guild. I grabbed my associate by the wrist, "Go make sure the younglings are safe." She nodded and ran off towards the academy, as I turned to see Lorena already next to me.
"You know your responsibility Olin. Do not disappoint me." And with that, she vanished from sight. Smiling, I whispered aloud as though she could still hear me, "You know I never do."
I brandished my sword; the guard made of fine ebony, the blade itself made of blackened, masterwork steel, the edges sharpened by diamond and could cut through anything as easily as butter. I removed my cloak to be prevented from being weighted down, and the ground below me was overcame by an eerie fog as I transformed; my true form of a Vyrewatch being revealed as my wings sprouted from my back.
I stepped off of the sloped wall of the guild castle and went into a careless free-fall. A few dozen feet before striking the ground, my feral instinct let me know of an intruder; and I fixed myself upright and struck him in the head before the ground. His skull was instantly shattered when my foot had connected, but I smashed his filthy, human face into the hewn-terrain; adding insult to injury. Jerking my head to the left, I noticed two of their archers taking aim at me with subtle shortbows and silver arrows dipped in holy water.
"Rakin!"I exclaimed. The ground beneath them instantly dissolved into nothingness; the Void consuming their souls. I then turned my attention to the inner courtyard of the guild; the human infection spreading like a virus throughout a body as a cold would overcome a small child. So many of them, and in such little time, I thought to myself. I had to clear them, but how? If I entered the fray and rooted them by sword, it would take too long, and we could possibly even be overthrown by then. There was one other idea that came to mind however...

As fast as I could, I flew above the courtyard and looked upon the ant-like humans, gathering every bit of energy surrounding me as I possibly could.
"Makin no faklun dethire cera mo akir!"
As soon as the last syllable had rolled off my tongue, a portal to the Nether appeared below them, demons reaching out to eat the skin off of their bones, with a ravenous, never-ending hunger. The demons then devoured every human, for I had instructed them, to remove the infection from the grand courtyard. As this happened, the spell finally took it's toll on my strength, and I fell to the ground, gasping for air.
My associate ran to me, for I felt her presence next to me.
"Olin,are yo-"
"How are- Where is-" I tried to voice my thoughts, but my breath was giving away my near hysterics. She then set me against the wall and looked into my blood-red eyes.
"The younglings are safe Olin. Olaf took them to the sanctuary where they will be safe. Lady Lorena wished you to report to her, but I ca-" I cut her off almost immediately, "Korin, take me to her."
The concern in her face melted and turned into shock.
"You aren't in any condition to-"
Just- do it." She stood, blankly staring at me, and then grabbed my arm and put it around her shoulder.
"As you wish m'lord."

The inner sanctum, which held the throne room, was desecrated with burning banners and destroyed walls.
"Some sort of utopia this is, eh?" I scoffed almost to myself. There were too many thoughts passing through my head, like a whirlwind had passed through a field of dirt. How had they breached us so easily? Better yet, how had they even been able to locate this place? I shuddered at the fact of one of the Vyrewatch betraying their own. This was our last sanctuary where we could live without being oppressed; without being hunted down to extinction.

As we approached the throne room door, I placed my hand upon the handle of it and whispered, "Olin Laventhiar, Vyrelord, First Battalion Commander."
The door opened quickly as a snapping of fingers and Korin helped me move farther into the sanctum. We had almost reached the center of the room when I stopped her and placed a finger up to my lips, indicating to be silent.
"Something doesn't feel right here. Be prepared for anything." She acknowledged the fact and drew her broadswords. We swiftly moved onward, and saw Lorena and Draskel, the guild's counsel and mediator, in a heated debate.
"You are a fool Draskel. As soon as Olin comes and sees your treacherous ways, he will put you down."
Draskel's face was suspiciously calm for the situation, and with an impish smile said, "Yes, I do suppose he would, so perhaps I shall deal with you myself!" And with lightning quick reflexes, he drew his dagger and stabbed her in her heart; the instant death blow.
