The sky was dull as always. Like my life. Once again, I was dodged in the halls of my high school by boys and girls alike. People took longer paths to the exit, or left different doors. I had a reputation. One I couldn't shake.
But that was okay. As I walked home, I kept looking at the little piece of plastic in my hand. Something in this had promise. I didn't know how, but it felt like it was my chance to escape this dreary life.
At my apartment, I took off my black, healed boots and raced up stairs, for once not caring who saw me barefoot. Outside the door, though, I stopped, and stood listening, barely breathing. Inside was the sound of heavy breathing, mixed with gurgles and snores. He was asleep.
Slipping the old door open quietly, I picked my way tip toe around bottles, broken and whole, all empty. My father was reclined in his chair, head tilted to the side, a bottle half empty in his hand. He didn't wake up as I opened the squeeky door to my room, and closed it, locking it behind me. If he woke up angry, it wouldn't do much.
Sitting at my old computer, I waved the mouse to pull up the screen. On the internet, I searched around, looking for anything like this piece of plastic. Finally, I found it. Someone else had found something like it. There were some strange calculations on the site, which was just a plain white with black arial text. Intrigued, I began to follow the directions.
"Carmine!" a deap voice slurred outside the room. It didn't sound pleasant. "Get yourself out here now!" my father demanded.
"No!" I shouted back. My fingers moved as fast as I could. Outside the door, the creak of the recliner returning to its normal position provided incentive. There was crunk=hing of glass and slurred swears. Almost done...
As I hit the last button, I heard the clicking of metal as he tried to slip the key in the lock.
And then nothing.
The key was in the lock, and turning. Time to get out.
Just as I slid back and putting my boots back on, opening the window to the fire escape, the computer made strange sounds, and flashed some strange symbols.
"CAR-"

When I cleared my vision, I was staring up at a clear blue sky, with puffy white clouds. Tall grass waved around me in the slight breeze, blowing the edge of my dress as well. Sitting up, I blinked as I looked around.
"Where-" I started.
"Let's get this over with. Your in the Digital World, essentially inside your computer. I'm a digimon, your partner. Call me Tinkermon." The voice came from what I had at first thought was a girl, but she had wings growing from her back, like gold fairy wings. There was some kind of pink staff leaning against her shoulder. She hardly glanced over at me, just stared off into the distance to my left.
"Tinkermon? Like Tinker Bell?" I asked. I remember watching Peter Pan as a child. I always felt bad for the little fairy. She deserved Peter, not Wendy.
"Tinker Bell? Pff, what kind of name is that? Speaking of names, you are Carmine, right?" she finally looked over at me.
"Yeah, call me CC." I pushed myself up and brushed any dirt off my black dress. "So, what am I suppose to be doing here?" She smiled devishly at me.
"Hm, maybe we should find some other humans first~" she suggested sweetly, it obviously paining her to smile like that.
"Don't hurt yourself," I huffed. There were other humans here? Interesting. "If there's others, we might as well start looking." Her wings fluttered as she stood up, and she picked up the pink staff. Now I had a better look, and it was hardly a staff. More like a lance, with slanting spikes at the bottom. Her hands also caught my eye. They were gloved, but there were claws sticking out, and they buldged as if they were almost paw-like. Pulling my eyes away to avoid giving her the pleasure of seeing my curiosity.
Deciding to head for the darker tree cover because it seemed promising, I heard her fluttering along behind me, sighing every so often.
"Look, if you don't want to be with me, then why stick around?" I finally erupted after her fifth sigh.
"Because I have to stay with you! Trust me, I'd much rather be with Petermon right now!" she raged back. It took all my will not to snort. So it was like Peter Pan.
"Whatever, I wouldn't have any problem with you leaving..." I muttered. Once in the forest, I heard a male voice and a higher pitched, most likely female voice. My step picked up until I found a boy and some wierd little furry purple dragon.
"Finally! Signs of real life!" I smiled with pleasure. He was about my age, blonde with dark eyes, and not bad looking.
"Hey! What am I, chopped liver?!" Tinkermon demanded angrily. Fixing my hair, I ignored her.
"I'm Carmine, but call me CC," I introduced myself.
