Prejudice

Before you start reading this, Just know that I am 1. White, and 2. Accepting of all colors. This is not about color, its about attitude. I just wanted to make that clear.

Also, this is from the perspective of people near me, and the concepts may be reversed in other parts of the world.

Ok. This first off, how come everyone talks about President Obama, they always just say he is either a good or bad presidnet BECAUSE he is black? I mean, I don't think he is a good president, and its because of his polocies and attitude toward our nations religious freedoms. If he was white and thought that way, it would still be wrong in my opinion. Ironically I have heard some of his traits refered to ask good by some and bad by others, yet everyone attributes it to his blackness. I mean, he was raised by whites, so it can't be his background. If you say this is because he's black, then you are duscussing skin-color, not thought process.

Ok, my next point, which is really more of a question; why are minorities never considered racist? Especially those who have reputations as lower-classmen? I mean, I get called racist, if I say Nigger to a black man, but he call call me whitey or hogey or cracker, and its ok? I mean, those names don't really bother me, but why isn't that a racist comment? The mexicans and blacks cal each other color-names all the time, but I;m not allowed. How is that non-discriminatory? In the same vein, if you spray paint on an Asians' house, it is just vandelism, but if you do it on a Mexicans' house, its a hate crime? Who thought that rule up, and what were they smoking?

And also, I laugh when people use the word "color" sometimes. There are just to many cliches that crack me up. Like, why are most "black" people actually brown? Why are "white" people really peach? Also, whites turn red when we are upset or nervous, blue when we can't breath, green or yellow when we are sick, paler when we are scared, and grey when we're old, yet we call black people colored? And why are Asians called "yellow" when they look just as brown as Mexicans to me? It sounds to me like people are just making up excuses to section people off.

And really, thats all it is. People want to take everyone and put us all in neat little, easy-to-understand boxes. They want to put all the whites in one box, all the blacks in one, or all the Liberals in a box and Republicans in thier own box.

We think it is dumb in school when we lable everyone, and we try not to discriminate when we grow up. Thats all good.

But lets look at reality. The Mexicans in my school are more likely to get money for college than I am. The black boy on our basketball team is probably going to be recruited first, even though there is a white boy with the same amount of talent. Also, if I want a certain seat or the last item, in a bus or store, and a man has it, I will probably get it away from him, just because I'm a girl. I don't even have to do anything! I just express interest in whatever it is, and he will either give it to me, or somebody nearby will take it away from him and let me have it. It's not fair. By trying to reverse the mistakes of the past, we have done just that, reversed. not solved. We have not eleminated the problem, just shifted the unfair advantage. Who your parents were, what gender you are, and so forth, might effect some things, like what clothes look good on you, or what role you play at home on occasion. I mean, blacks and whites or men and women are not the same, but we are still equal. If a mexican boy gets better grades, then he should get to go to college, but if I have the better grades, it ought to be me. And If they want to call me cracker or hogey, thats fine, I'll laugh it off and its all good. But I want to be able to tease them too, or have them leave me alone. It shouldn't work both ways.

I don't care what our ancestors did. I've heard that excuse enough to make me want to puke. Historically, there were black slave-owners and white slaves in the beggining of America, and the black slaves were really sold by other blacks who were having tribal fueds! some Indian tribes were ran by women while men cared for the homes. I mean, we have been finding excuses to enlave each other and claim dominance for centuries! No matter what our ancestors did, we should learn from thier mistakes by changing our mindset on things, not over-correcting and repeating thier mis-direction, in essence.
