"We need to get to the closest town before the storm hits. Iceines love hunting in snow storms." Adam was checking out the board to see if there was a map of the area. "I am not worried about Iceines. They are just big puppy dogs when I am around." Pais was scanning the frozen tundra around us. "Still...you have to remember that Pais and I aren't part fox. The cold isn't that much fun for us." I rolled my eyes. What does this kid take me for, an idiot? I was just about to give my retort when my ears twitched. Someone was screaming.
"Someone is in danger!" I pulled IceWind out and ran towards the sounds. "YUKI-SAN WAIT!" I had no time to stop. If I can help it I refuse to let anyone die in this forsaken game.
Adam and Pais caught up to me as we came upon the sound. A young boy had another player pinned and was about to finish him off. "Help me! He's a player killer!" Adam raised his weapon and readied to attack.
"Step any closer and your friend here loses his head." The boys voice was cold and his eyes filled with steal. He ment what he said. Adam smirked. "Kill him. Makes no difference to me. But once he is dead know that you are next."
I threw my arm out stopping Adam. "We do not know this man. But killing him will not solve anything." I noticed Pais checking their stats and tried to buy her some time. "You player killers make me sick! Preying on the weaker players! Well now who is the weaker player?!" I lowered my sword. "We are not player killers. I think you are confused." I saw him waver. I was getting through.
The creep on the ground took his chance and pulled out a dagger. Adam wasted no time. While I had been distracting them he had laid a trap with his bugs. The boy gasped and fell backward. "Yuki-San, he is badly injured. We should help him get to the village safe area." I nodded. "What say you boy? Will you allow us to aid you, or would you like to face them next?" I pointed back towards the woods. Glowing red eyes stared out of the darkness as the snow began to fall. No one else had noticed the Iceines circling us during the standoff. "If you refuse our help you will die."
He nodded. "Seems like I have no choice." I noticed his body relax. "I guess if you wanted to kill me I would be dead already huh..." With that he passed out. His points were low. In the single digits. It was amazing he stayed concience as long as he did. The pain must be incredible.
"Adam, please carry him. Pais guard our front. I will take up the rear." They both nodded. I turned and glared at the Iceines. They growled at me and I bared my teeth. "Let us pass. We mean your pack no harm. If you let us go we won't kill any of you." The alpha stepped forward and growled back in a voice only I could understand. "Fox, we will let you and yours go, but you must leave the boy. He has killed many of my pack. We demand his blood as retribution! " My eyes narrowed. "He is under my protection now. I cannot grant your wish. I have asked nicely. Do not not make me use my powers in order to foece your will. They howled in anger but knew I spoke the truth. "We shall not forget this fox."
The eyes disappeared two by two until finally I could not even hear the sound of their paws breaking through the ice. We should be safe for now.
