BookLook: Disenchanted - It's a Hard Knock Life

Welcome to the first biweekly BookLook!

Today's novel, Disenchanted by Robert Kroese, is an action/adventure fantasy novel where--and this isn't a spoiler--the hero dies at the immediate beginning of the novel. Available on Amazon for most generations of Kindle, it's more of a light read for those looking for a decent chuckle. It's up to you to decide if it's laugh out loud funny (my standards are a bit lower than others'), but the witty banter, somewhat bloody mayhem, and awkwardly-timed arrival of an afterlife escort on a winged bear are sure to amuse those who enjoy the fantasy genre.

Now, on to the ratings!

Plot: 4/5

Characters: 4/5

Pacing: 3.5/5

Effectiveness of Writing: 4/5

Overall Score: 4/5

The pacing can be a little fast at times, but the speed of comedic delivery matches it well. With a unique plot and well-balanced characters, I give Disenchanted four out of five stars. It's definitely worth a reread when you need something to cheer you up!
