hoooo boy
I just got back from vacation yesterday, which was nine days with my boyfriend's extended family! We went to the beach in North Carolina, then visited his family in Virginia for a day before driving back, since he has work starting back tomorrow. I got to spend over a week thinking about absolutely no home responsibilities whatsoever, and boy did I need the mental break.
I'm feeling so much more energized to not only handle my chores at home, but to finish art I owe people and get to work on some personal projects. I thought I was going to be doing some portfolio pieces, but I'm actually prepping for an independent study!
To complete my degree, I needed one more art history class. Since no others were available, I got permission from my professors to do an independent study course and write a paper on women's contributions to art and the social and political issues which affected their work. I just finished the first draft of the course schedule/syllabus, and I'm so excited!
While I was gone, I got some cute little knickknacks for my folks, and they really liked them. One was a frog with his tongue sticking out, which was made of little seashells and googly eyes. My grandma really loved it, hehe. I was hoping she'd get a laugh out of it.
I also bought 10 postcards for my postcard collection. Someday, I'll have to show you guys a picture of it. It's gotten decently sized in the last two years, with the school trips I've attended spurring most of the collection. I might have gone a little overboard, but hey, it was the beach. I haven't gone to the beach in eight years, and even then, it was a crappy trip where I didn't get to go in the water, because it was February.
This time, however, I got to try a lot of things I'd never done before!
New things I did/experienced:
- kayaking (I have the bruises to prove it, but my boyfriend said I'm a natural, other than getting thrown by an errant wave)
- boogieboarding (which also involved me getting thrown by the waves)
- surfing (there was very little of this, and it was bad)
- seeing the milky way pretty darn clearly!
- watching REAL LIVE fireflies! (if I'd gone much longer without it, I would've thought they were just a conspiracy that half the country is in on)
It was super awesome, and I took a lot of pictures and video to add to my anniversary present to my boyfriend: a video compilation of our first year of adventures, set to music! I haven't gotten to work on it much, but I hope to get it completed in the next three weeks.
I've gotta go, more updates later!
