Zeru

The wind blow hard as I walk by the shrine. I hate shrines. Had it not for them I wouldn’t be here. I keep walking till I get to the gates. Water Spirit: Shiko. What a crude sign, and this is to honor a god? The villagers say that this spirit has been acting out violently and attacking passersby. I’ve not been attacked. But I’m never in any real danger. No never real. It has begun to rain but there are no clouds. It must be the real water god then. I charge in under the trees to avoid getting wet. I wouldn’t want my zeku to get rusty. I wrap some cloth around it blade. What a weapon. I’ve often been mistaken for death himself. I can see the temple now. Maybe a short sprint off. The problem with water gods if there is puddles, ponds or even a birds bath they can appear leaving me with nothing but a bloodless corpse pure as if a vampire had claimed me as a victim.
I decide to stay under the trees and head in; at least the thick canopy can stop the water from forming a pool at my feet. The temple guards, what a pitiful sight a fish sprite and a lobster spirit. No need to kiss them they tend to drift in and out of sleep. I head around hoping for a window. But I trip over the high step that puts me onto the temples doors. The noise I made surely made the villagers stir but the guards made no movement. There was some thing wrong. I open the doors still no movement from the guards. The temple was small but seemed endless. The alter was in sight I stepped closer but it went further away. Water magic, making things ripple and look closer then they really are. Just like a mirage but with more substance. I unwrapped zeku, the ruby eye the blade of the scythe began to glow.
“Sheri un caste visi un” I chanted. But the rooms stayed solid maybe it wasn’t a spell, but a curse. I had to think how to move closer to the alter without it moving further away. I walked backwards. The alter moved toward me, the door and me further away. Life is nothing but a riddle. I continued to step backwards till I the wall stopped moving. I have figured out the curse and it no longer would effect me. I had free range of the temple. All that was left was to find the god. I search for any hint of water. I find water I find him.
Nothing after an hour of searching nothing. I head to the alter, to sit down for a bit. As I sit I feel my body getting wet. Some one else is here. I follow the droplets to the outside. A back door hidden behind an emblem. I open the door and hear the sounds of weapons clang against each other a slash from one and a stab from the other. What fool goes against a water god head-on? Well besides my self. I follow the sounds I see them a young girl, seeming to hold her own against shiko. Shiko, a large eel, I was told that he had a human shape not that of one of his domains. So this was not the god but a demon. I hid in the trees and moved closer to see how the girl would do against demon.
She seemed to have the upper hand; the demon was beginning to fall back. I couldn’t be leave that she was going to win. She went in for the final blow. She slipped. The demon took up his spear and stabbed at her. She rolled out of the way and I lunged at him. Zeku glowing.
“I’ll keep him busy you go on your way!”
She stood back up, “this is my fight you go away!”
I ignore her and continue to fight. The demon was weak but sly. It would dive into the pools of water left by the rain and appear behind me. He was fast. Zeku and I could only defend. I hear him behind me and I slash backward. But he’s not there; there are two of them now. Or was it an illusion? One of them stabs and grazes my side. That didn’t feel like a illusion. They both came at me I have nowhere to go. The girl slash’s the second eel. Saving me, I hook the first eel. I pull it in close and she runs him through. He is motion less now.
“You owe me one now” she told me as she removed her blade.
“I saved you, how do I owe you?” I move in closer to the body
“I never needed saving, you jumped in uninvited”
“I’m on my own business, he was my kill” Zeku is still glowing I raise him high
“I don’t care what you are…. what are you doing?” she stared at Zeku and me.
“Demons can’t be killed by normal weapons” swing him into the eel’s head the ruby eye of Zeku began to glow dimmer and dimmer, till It was just a just the regular stone. The eel was no longer a demon but a lowly creature of the sea. The sky was now clear no more wind or rain.
“Your not a human...”She raised her sword and began to step away.
“ Am I?”I stepped closer she moved back I slide into the shadows of the trees. She began to panic:
“Where are you? SHOW YOUR SELF!” her voice was shaky. I snuck behind her throwing a stone in the other direction to distract her. I was right behind her could see that she was terrified.
“BOO!!” she jumped about 10ft in front of her self and I broke down in laughter. Not even I am above a joke.
“You arrogant jerk! Why did you do that!?” she was still scared.
“Because it was funny.” I said recovering from my laughter. She lowered her sword and stared at me her fear turning to a mix of anger and relief.
“Well at least I know what you are.” She said and looks directly at me. Her feature much clearer then they were when I first saw her. Her hair was up in a ponytail so it was longer then I thought. It was brown not black as it looked from the trees. And her eyes were a blue, full of innocence. She was young though a good 2-3 years younger then I. But still too young to be out her on her own.
“What are you staring at?” she had noticed me looking at her so directly she was blushing now.
“I’m sorry just you look so different up close”
“Really? Um like how?” she seemed to blush even more
“You’re a lot prettier from far away”
“WHAT” she had gotten angry again and I began to laugh again. It was good to be laughing for a change.
“You’re a jerk!” she raised her hand to slap me but I felt a sharp pain in the back o my head like some one had hit me with a rock. I feel to my knee.
“YOU LEAVE MY SISTER ALONE!” it was a young boy no more then twelve if I was to guess. He had another rock in his hand, which he stopped to throw at me getting me in the forehead.
“Are you ok?” the girl had come to my side.
“Yeah I’m fine,” I said seeing that there was no blood.
“Good” she stood up and kicked me reeling her foot all the way back and bring it into my side.
“NEXT TIME LEARN HOW TO TALK TO A LADY!” the pain shot threw my side. It’s been a long time since anything hurt so bad I was rolling on my side.
“Shin we are leaving” her brother was looking at me writhing in pain.
