Gemstone Eyes
Chapter 3
For the next few days I would visit Ren. We talked about trivial things, but every once and awhile he would open up. His expected so much from him and it was beginning to get hard to come up to par with his father's standards. He was the next to inherit the family value's and he had to learn trades and such. "I'm sure it will get better! You work so hard to please him, I'm sure he'll see the things you've done to be the son he wants." I told him. He gave me a sad smile. "I hope." Was all he said.
I thought it unfair that his father would treat him that way. Ren was doing everything he could but to no prevail. He just became meaner and crueller. "Once when I came late to a meeting, he slapped me." Ren had said once. "Ren..." I trailed off. "I don't understand your feelings because I myself have never felt them, but I believe that you will become a better business man then he will ever be." I answered. "Sayuri." Ren looked up at me.
His eyes looked wonderingly at me. Slowly, ever so slowly, he put his hand in mine. Our fingers interlaced and he smiled. "Thank you. For believing in me." He said. I blinked and came out of my trance. "Ren." I barley whispered. I didn't know if I should kiss him or pull away. My mind was saying it was wrong, but my heart was saying it was so, so right. I felt like we were so connected in a special way. The way my stomach fluttered when I saw him, and how our hands together meant so much to me.
And when I thought of all those things I couldn't possibly pull away. Couldn't even dream it. So when he held me close to him I didn't even move a muscle. He smelled like tea leaves. I breathed him in and we stayed like that for a long, long time. The sound of horse hooves clattered again outside and I reluctantly left. "See you tomorrow Sayuri." He spoke softly. "Until then Ren." I replied and left the room. I smelled tea leaves the entire night.
