Chapter 10
We drove to the beach, the clear blue sky never-ending. It was a sight to behold and nothing made it better then Hannah standing right beside me. We ran onto the sand and she twirled around; her sundress spinning with her. I smiled and sat on a nearby log and watched her play around. She turned to me and smiled then headed towards the ocean. Ever so carefully she lifted up the dress so it wouldn't touch the calm waters. She looked so happy. I felt amazing but I'd never show it.
She gave a small gasp and I went on edge. "What is it?" I asked. She giggled. "The fish are nibbling my toes, it tickles!" She laughed. I gave a mental sigh of relief. I felt playful and looked at her. "Why you." I muttered and ran at her, not caring about my soaked jeans. I picked her up with a swoosh and ran around in the cold sea. "Agh!" She screamed. "Put me down!" She yelled. "Never." I smiled and ran some more. She laughed and laughed, and I felt a perfect feeling form inside of me.
It ached and wanted to get out but I had no idea how to release it. I had never felt this feeling before and even though I enjoyed it, it needed to get out. I finally surfaced out of the water and ran to some small rocks that led to a huge flat one. "Lawliet!" She cried. I hopped onto the huge one and put her down. She sat down and put her hands on her head. She looked around incredulously and closed her eyes. "I like it here, don't you?" I asked her. "Yes I do, very much." She smiled, her eyes still closed.
I turned to the beach again. "I think I'll to go beach-combing. Wanna come?" I suggested. She opened her eyes and looked to me. "Naw, I think I'll stay here for awhile." She replied. "Okay." I said and headed down. I picked up a few shells and held them to my ear. I'd never believed you could hear the ocean in them but today I did. "Probably because the oceans right beside me." I thought and put them down. I sat on to log before and sat down.
Was Hannah so important to me that I'd help her in any way I could? Would I try my best to please her? What was this emotion that bursted through me? I had answered yes to the first two, but the third still remained unanswered. Even though I had an inkling of an idea I refused to believe it. It could not be that feeling. I'd never felt it before, so why now? It made no sense.
My thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of loud footsteps and random mutters. I turned my head and saw a tall man with red hair sloppily walk towards the rock Hannah was laying on. I shot up and watched to see what he would do. My muscles tensed. He disappeared from my sight and that was when I ran.
I ran as fast as I could. I dashed from one rock to another and hit the top platform. My ears picked up a small and scared whisper. "Lawliet." She said and I jerked my head to the two. He was laughing hysterically and rubbing close to her. She had wide eyes and hardly moved. Anger exploded through m. I charged then jumped and hit him in the back. He fell to the floor. I looked at him and saw every murderer and criminal I had ever dealt with.
He stood up, tipping from side to side. "What are you doing boy!? This girl and I were having a little fun is all!" He yelled at me. He went to punch me but I stepped aside, his aim off because of the alcohol. I turned and squatted then kicked out. My leg made contact with his stomach and he toppled down, unconscious. I turned to Hannah, the scared look in her eyes still there and grabbed her hand.
"Let's go Hannah." I said strictly and led her down to the safety of the beach. I sat her down. Her breathing was heavy. "Are you okay? Did he do anything to you?" I asked her. I lifted her head to look at me. She shook her head now and I sighed. But my head snapped back to her. "Why didn't you scream? Why didn't you stop him?" I asked her.
"I-I'm sorry." She apologized meekly. That wasn't good enough. "No Hannah! You could have gotten so hurt!" I said angrily. A few tear-drops fell on her legs. I swirled out of control. All my frustration disappeared. I should not have blamed her for feeling frightened. Something like that had probably never happened to her before, and she didn't know how to handle it. And the feeling rose again. It swirled on the surface and finally broke the mould that held it together.
"I'm sorry Lawliet!" She yelled now. I crouched to her eye level and slowly took her head in my hands. My head moved of its own accord and my lips touched hers. Sweet is what she tasted like, with a hint of sea salt. She stood there for a moment, shocked at my actions. I was kissing her. And the feeling was exploding like fireworks.
