I enjoyed writing this chapter, though not much happens. I just can't wait to write more

Chapter 5

The days were filled the long hours and intense heat, a bad combination. I went along with my duties while my father kept a watchful eye on me. A knot would tighten every time I walked past Ren's door. I'd seen him walking around the gardens behind the Inn but carefully avoided him. He came to my tea ceremonies and traditional dances. It was hard not to catch his eye. But I held true to my father's orders and didn't say a word.

A few weeks after the Mr. Sakimoto incident I was walking down the hallways to meet a guest that wanted some tea. I couldn't remember the room they stayed in and took a guess at what I thought it was. I knocked gently on the door. "Come in." I heard a muffled voice. "Hello there. You wanted some tea?" I questioned, looking down at tray. "Yes thank you." I heard an all too familiar voice say. My head shot up to see Ren sitting by the window. My eyes glazed over and I set the tea down. "Is that all?" I said listlessly.

Ren turned to me. "Sayuri." Was all he said. I stared into his eyes, so green and bright but filled with sadness. And my walls fell down. I glanced down at my feet then up at him again. "I can't stay long but meet me in the gardens at midnight. We'll talk then." I told him. He smiled and nodded. I left the room, feeling a small tinge of guilt but mostly delight.

I finished my chores in a hurry, gulped down my dinner and then waited. My mother and father always checked on me before heading to sleep and my heart pounded when I saw the door creaked open. I closed my eyes and eventually it closed again. A few minutes later I crept out. I padded down the stairs and into the back. Walking down the stairs I ran through the grass and to wear the main gardens lay.

And there he was, the moonlight illuminating his figure. "Ren!" I called and he turned his head to me. A grin broke out onto his face and I walked over to him. He held me tightly. "I thought you wouldn't come." He whispered then dug out something in his pocket. A small creamy iris was clutched in Ren's hand and he handed it to me. "I thought it looked nice and decided to get it for you. You always smell like them." He told me.

We talked long into the night and only left until we could see the sun peaking over the hills. We hugged good-bye and left to our rooms. We carried our meeting for a long time, even when trouble started to brew. If only we knew how soon it would come.
