Normal
Chapter 1
Watanuki was surprised, but he agreed. That was all I wanted to be at the time. Let go of the murders, the title, the person that I’d come to be. I’d thought long and hard and I did it. I enrolled in the school. I would become ‘normal’. And that’s all I really wanted to be. Not have to be an orphan. Not have to be the #1 detective in the world. Normal. Normal is what I would be.

I dressed up in black. It was about the only other thing I had in my small wardrobe other then white long T-shirts and jeans. Black pants and a black shirt. I slipped into them and grimaced. It was so tight, nothing like my usual attire. “Only for a few days.” I reminded myself. Then I could sink into the comfortable clothes once again.
I went into my bathroom and attempted to fix my hair but I didn’t really care and left it when it didn’t cooperate. I came down to the kitchen. Watanuki looked at me and laughed. “It was the only thing that wasn’t a T-shirt and jeans.” I said, slightly amused and slightly annoyed that Watanuki laughed at my pitiful attempt to dress-up.
“I’ve gotten your breakfast.” Watanuki said and gestured to the cup of tea and cake on the table. “Excellent.” I thanked him then sat down and feasted on the cake, leaving the strawberry for last.
Once I’d finished that I nodded at Watanuki and left for the bus stop nearby. We had no car, didn’t need on either. I waited noting how cold it was standing here with these odd people looking at me like some odd creature. Sure I had no shoes but I didn’t need that either just like the car. The bus finally came.
“I arrived at the school. “Lansdowne High School.” I said reading the large green letters on the side of the school. I walked down to the doors at the front entrance and went to the office as I was instructed to. I looked at the project’s the various classes had done with an amused expression. “Why on earth do they want other people to see their work? What is the point?” I thought. I registered with the secretary. Then suddenly a loud bell rang inside the school.
I looked at the secretary in alarm. “Looks like the kids are heading in. Your class is down the hall to the left. Hope to see you again…?” She said. I looked at her. She wanted my name. “ Colin Snixx.” I replied. What a horrible name. I can do better. “Oh welcome.” She said again.
I headed to my class, slowly. The kids here were like one huge glob right in the hallway and it was impossible to get through. I lurched into my classroom with relief that I’d survived. The teacher looked at me and smiled. “You must be Colin.” She said. I nodded. “Welcome an this will be your homeroom.” She said kindly. I nodded and picked a desk.
“They’re so small and uncomfortable.” I thought. The class poured in, some looking at me like the people at the bus stop, while others didn’t even notice me. “Well class we have a new student today.” The teacher said. She gestured for me to come up to the head of the class. I slowly walked up and the whispers began.
“Look at how he walks. Is something wrong with him?”. “Why isn’t he wearing shoes?”. I paid no heed to them. “This is Colin Snixx and I expect you to help him around the school.” The teacher said.
A girl came rushing in, sweat going down her face. “Sorry teacher I missed my bus again.” She said, heaving. “Hannah! This is the third time this week! One more time and its detention!” The teacher said sternly. “Yes Mam.” She said then took her seat two rows across from mine.
