Normal
Chapter 8
I came back to her house every single day after that. We did the same things every time, but they all felt like it the first time we had ever done it. I liked those peaceful days. No...I loved those peaceful days. But I still did not feel totally normal, my goal. So I decided to ask her what it felt like, what it was like to be normal. "What's it like to be so average?" I said. "What do you mean average?" She said, looking confused. "To have an average life. Not be super smart or seen so much.” I said. She did not reply and I continued on to another conversation. "Even the normal people can't describe normal." I thought. Time ran out and I arrived at her doorstep.
I was overseeing some cases and had lost track of the time. When I looked at the clock and realized I was late I became panicky and quickly left the house. As I walked down the street I heard a high amount of yelling and then saw someone run out of a house crying. I would have not cared if I had not seen it to be her. Hannah was running and crying. Crying....
I ran. It hurt seeing her be crushed. I ran as fast I could. And then there she was, underneath our willow tree. Still crying. I became empty, not sure what to do. So I sat there and watched her cry. Let her empty out all the sadness that had somehow gone into her. The happiness and bubbly personality that I had once saw was gone. And then there was silence. She had stopped and a immense relief washed over me. Her eyes opened and widened at the sight of me. She bowed her head down.
“My mom and me got into a fight, and it got a bit ugly.” She whispered. "I can' go back there tonight, Lawliet my life is such a mess." And a few more of those terrible drops came again. I slowly wiped them away, wanting to end them for good. I held her tightly. "Help her. Console her." Where my thoughts. "You can stay with me for awhile. Until it feels right." I whispered to her. "Make her feel better. Do everything I can." I thought, repeating it over and over again. "Thank you." She said and held me back. I felt right, just like I had when we were first here under this willow tree.
We stayed there for a long time and then she rose up from the spot. She had a small smile on her lips and I took her by the hand, then led her to my house. Hannah. My Hannah.
