“What It Means to Be an Adult”

Part 4: Conclusion

While I do not believe that this FOF was written to perfection, I do believe that the thoughts behind it, the stream of consciousness that strings through these series to bring this FOF into existence are dense and come from a place of understanding either the series themselves, the medium, or how I as a person interact with these pieces of media to gain something out of the experience.

To drive the point, I would offer how this analysis came to be. After watching Chunibyo thinking it was going to be something completely different than what it was, I took a look at the art style and thought of how much it would appeal to a younger audience. Then of course I watched season 2 and season 3 of FLCL and felt like a teenager again. Before I did those two things this year I saw the video about Cowboy Bebop, and once the gears started turning on the stage of life that I am in and what I draw from the media I consume, I somehow came to this conclusion.

If you have seen any of these anime, and depending on the time in which you watch it, the impact that it had on you could probably be different than mine. At the very least, you can see where I am coming from; if not through my commentary of these shows, then from something else.
So what does this mean? All of this has a meaning, I am sure it does. To me…it means that what we see has an affect on us. How we interpret things is based on consuming things that we enjoy. It means that art, in its oddest forms, still imitates life, which is the very principle that I base everything in this World off of. It makes me think of the people who create these things we enjoy—anime and movies and everything else is not something generated by a Matrix or produced by some AI, they are products of people. In my opinion, companies and the dollar and the psychology behind appealing to a certain demographic can drive production of, not just anime, but anime into doing things that may cheapen the creative intent of its creators. Almost all mediums have that, so it’s not an exclusive idea.
I say this to say this...I present this FOF to you for your viewing pleasure, to absorb and intake at your leisure. Do you agree/disagree? What did you get out of this, if you got anything out of it?

That’s your reward for reading this long-ass script. Another quiz.
