As he entered the castle, Oric started to once again take the form of a cat. He stepped directly past the guards almost going completely unnoticed to either of them. Foolish humans…. The cat thought to himself with a devilish grin that had suddenly appeared on his face. They all come together and think that they’re somehow safe behind great walls…… Shaking his head a moment, Oric noticed that there was a guard staring directly at him. Sitting back on his hind legs, Oric stared back at the man and gave out something between a meow and a pur. The man didn’t look completely convinced of the façade, and yet his partner who stood next to him proved to be. After a moment, Oric proceeded inwards once more.
Turning inside the castle, Oric noticed that already there had been a complacent group of travelers that had come in. No one noticed the cat at first until once he moved into the center of the group and proceeded into his human form. There was a sudden jump as several humans seemed suddenly shocked by the scenario that had just played, and yet Oric stared at them for a complete moment before losing interest in the matter all together. However, once a larger voice that caused Oric’s head to turn a fraction as he viewed the prince who now seemed to begin speaking, Oric took on a half well mannered look and waited to see what was truly the matter with this kingdom.
“Welcome!”the prince said as he spread his amrs wide, and for a split second, Oric had the impulse to jump straight at the prince and chew his head off. However, the notion was tabled in a matter of seconds as the demon noticed that there was something of a fairy standing near the prince. Shaking his head, Oric let out a half sigh.
Suddenly, a voice broke not too far to the left of the demon, and his head moved to view an elf who appeared not complacent with this sudden manner of welcoming. “I don’t work for free. For anybody or any cause,” the elf said boldly, and for the first time in a long time, Oric tasted one of the greatest sin tastes of all time…. Greed. Yes there was a flavor or rather an aroma that came from souls that harbored this vanity, and in that moment, Oric felt his stomach twitch with delight.
“Then why don’t you just leave?” the fairy creature tore off in a sharp tone at the elf. Oric turned his head yet again. Agression… would this banquet of emotion never cease to torment him by disallowing him to eat? Shaking his head after a moment, the demon let out a mix between a hum and a pur.
“Ugh! Kira! Go away! Go away!” the prince’s voice spoke up for a sharp moment, and Oric found that there was something completely different in the way that the prince was talking.
“Fine.” The fairy answered back, and suddenly the aggression was dead, and Oric felt a string latch around his stomach. It was as though someone had tore something important from him, and he was left with a sour feeling of his own…. Well as much a feeling as a demon that could only take true delight in devouring the mind and body of a human could feel.
“So, why are we here anyway?” another asked, and Oric felt his eyes roll.
“Ah, yes,” the prince’s voice dropped a few degrees with the tightness that he carried of the situation at hand. “Anyone heard of the Kenai?” Now this perked the demon’s ears quiet considerably. Indeed, he had learned of these wondrous creatures that ate like demons and drank like vampires. However, demons were forced to be more reserved in their snacks due to the complications of their meals. In truth, every time a demon ate a human or something of the like, they were always left with somewhat of a disdained sickening taste in their stomach, and yet humans were the only true source of income into their system. It was a strange balance that nearly every demon had to account for.
“The Kenai? What’re those?” a human asked, and with a sudden motion, Oric’s eyes darted and his voice rose out of him as a grin had split his face.
“The Kenai are evil spirits. They devour flesh, and drink their victim’s blood, kind of like a vampire I guess.” Oric answered trying to find the words that humans would understand on the matter. Indeed, there was a stark different between the language of the great beasts known as demons and the humans and yet they could after many tries, manage to get through somewhat of a talking situation. The human who had asked the question reflected a look of nervousness and then blunt fear.
“Yes, but vampire’s are not nearly as bad,” the fairy who appeared to be somewhat agitated by the entire situation continued where the prince left off. “They usually only take small amounts of blood from their victims, erasing their memories afterward. Only the criminals drain their victims completely.” With that, the fairy seemed to take a sudden glace of all those that were watching her. Oric reflected a half look back and gave a nod. There were certain rules and restrictions that everyone in the civilized world had to at least for a certain fraction adhere to in order to stay alive.
“Ok, ok, I get it, so the Kenai are the bad guys, right? I still don’t see what this has to do with us,” another human looked confused, and Oric once again was forced to resist the urge to jump straight at the human and tear off his head.
“The Kenai are back,” a witch breathed as she suddenly looked around. “They wiped out the Mahalay coven only the other day.”
Oric was half stunned by the matter. Had they really returned? Why had he not felt their presence? It was a strange thing, and Oric was now subject to looking into the faces of the others that were around him who also appeared to be stunned by this.
“And that’s why you’re here! We need your help!” the prince said sharply cutting into the demon’s thoughts.
“You want us to fight?” a female demon’s voice rose above the crowd, and for a moment, the nostalgic amount of fear that the demon had placed before him was enough to cause Oric to want to seize her by the throat and rip her head off for such a showing of fear.
“Sounds like fun!” the human standing beside this demon said quickly. With this, was able to calm down a bit, and he let out a half breath.
“No, not fight. That’s only a last result. We need you to wake up the princesses,” the prince said quickly. Oric’s breath caught once more. The princesses… the twins that were said to hold the fate of the world in their grasp….
“I’ll tell you again. I don’t work for free. For anybody or any cause,” the elf’s voice rose again, and Oric half felt a pleased manner coming from himself due to this obvious stretch of want.
“Oh, don’t worry about that, you’ll be greatly rewarded,” the prince answered back lightly, and it seemed as though this appeased the matter in the fullest. “Alright now, I want everyone to introduce themselves! Then I have a little test for you,” the prince said aloud.
“A test?” the demon who had now finished his full survey of the situation said complacently. I could easily rip off a few heads.... Thought Oric as he now in his own twisted ways had come to his own drive. If we wake the princesses and I devour them……The demon smirked to himself and was suddenly a cat on the floor.
"Umm I'm Kallik," a voice all but whispered, and yet it was loud enough for Oric to hear completely and fully. "I'm here to help Yuki and don't expect to be reworded."
After this moment, Oric let out somewhat of a yowl and nodded to himself. “You may call me by Oric,” the demon half yawned to himself as his eyes moved across those that seemed suddenly shocked to see a cat sitting and talking at them. However, the eyes of Oric just reflected a complacent look back at each and every one of them.
