‘I can’t even think around you now.’
“What do you mean Haru?” She asked.
“I-I just, well, some things are nice to keep private ya know.” I looked away. She didn’t say anything for a few moments.
“Well?” She asked.
“What?”
“Aren’t you going to answer me?”
“What did you say? I didn’t hear anything.” I muttered.
“I-I asked you if you had any, uh, deep dark secret or something.” She said.
“N-No.” I stuttered.
“You’re lying.” She stated.
“Aki, please, I’ll tell everyone when I’m ready.”
“I don’t really even know how I can read minds.”
“I know, I guess I’m just, paranoid.” I was trying so hard not to think about her, but thinking about not thinking about her was tough, and I was so afraid that she was in my head and could see everything.
“What cha’ thinkin’ about?”
“Don’t you already know?”
She shook her head.
“I’m thinking about not thinking.” I looked at her.
“That’s confusing how can you think about not thinking?”
“It’s complicated.” I laughed a little.
“It’s not complicated.”
“How is it not complicated?”
“You just don’t think. TK dose a good job at it.”
“He’s a, deeper thinker than you believe him to be. Sometimes.”
“Because I tried reading his mind yesterday to see if he liked Mai and all I heard was static.”
“Not even any crickets? How about Mai? What’s going on with her?”
“What do you think? “
“Don’t trip don’t trip don’t trip?”
“Oh my god he looks strange with out black on, but he looks really good without a shirt.”
“Well then. She must really like him.” I looked away. ‘Wish someone would look at me like that.’
“Do you want to play truth or dare?”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Do you want to play truth or dare?”
“Fine.”
“Okay Haru, truth or dare?”
I thought for a second. “Truth.”
“How long have you been afraid of black birds?”
“When I was 5, I got a little too close to a nest, and the mama wasn’t too happy with me. So she attacked me.”
“Ok now it’s your turn to ask me.”
“Truth or Dare?” I smiled.
“Dare, because who tells the truth anyways.”
“Me. Most of the time. Any way…hmm.” I thought. I could do it, but I don’t know if I should. “Close your eyes, and don’t open them until I tell you to.”
She sighed and closed her eyes. “This isn’t a very good dare.”
“Just do it.” I kissed her cheek.
“What was that?”
“What was what?” I asked turning red.
“Did you just peck me on the cheek?”
“No, what are you talking about? Stay here.” I went out to the kitchen and grabbed an ice cube.
“HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO SIT HERE WITH MY EYES CLOSED?”
I dropped the ice down her shirt, in the back.
“You damn bastard! That’s cold.”
“Really?” I held her shirt so she couldn’t get it out.
“It’s coold.”
“it is ice after all. Are you uncomfortable?” I asked innocently.
“Ha not a chance.”
“that’s good, cus I’m not gonna let you go.” I smiled while she squirmed a little.
“Can this Dare be done now?”
“Not until the ice cube is melted.”
“Can I open my eye’s though?”
“You mean their still closed?”
“You didn’t tell me that I couldn’t open them until you said.”
“So open them then.”
“You’re going to make my shirt soaking wet.”
“Yes, yes I am.”
She sighed and waited for the ice to melt. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth.”
“How long have you known Takumi?”
“We met in third grade.”
“Interesting.”
“Yea it was considering he tried to bully me.”
“He tried bullying you?”
“He was taller than me at one point.”
“hua.”
“Alright truth or Dare?”
“Truth.”
“Do you have a crush on anybody?”
“Maybe.”
“That’s not a straight out answer.”
“Then yes.”
“Who is it?”
“One question at a time. Truth or dare?”
“Truth.”
“ Okay, then…Do you have a crush on someone?”
“I wouldn’t call it that.”
“Then what would you call it?”
“A bit more serious then that.”
“Really?!”
“Truth or dare?”
“Truth.”
“Who do you like?”
“I changed my mind lets go with dare.”
“I dare you to tell me who you like.”
“You’re twisting my arm.”
“I’m not touching you, what are you talking about.”
“I’m not going to tell you.”
“It’s a dare you have to tell me.”
“I like….i like Mai as a friend.”
“What?”
“You never said like like. Now truth or dare?”
“Dare.”
“I dare you to hug Takumi for 30 seconds when they get back.”
“But.”
“No buts.”
“Fine, truth or dare.”
“Truth.”
“Who do you like, like?”
“you’re really going to keep up with this aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
“I like like that one kid in chemistry, you know the one who thinks he knows everything just because he does really good in there.”
“That’s like all the boys that are taking chemistry.”
“That’s right. Truth or dare.”
“Truth.”
“What’s the name of the girl that you like like?”
“I don’t know their middle name.”
“Just there name, you don’t even have to say middle just their name.”
“You just said name, there’s a first name, middle name and a last name.”
“First name.”
“Ahaha truth or dare.”
“Fuck you.”
“That would be a dare.”
“Truth.”
“What is the first name of the boy that you like that is in chemistry.”
“Be right back.”
“Where are you going?”
“I need to go to the bathroom thank you very much.” Then she left the room.
God she’s good.”
‘Haru.’ I heard in my head. It was in Aki’s voice in well. “Was it really her that said it?” I muttered.
“Okay I feel better.” She smiled walking back into the living room.
“You still have to answer my question.”
“I do hua?”
“Well yea.”
“You’re totally retarded I told you earlier.”
“You lie.”
“No I’m not.”
“Fine what ever, since you won’t even answer me.”
“Truth or dare.”
“Dare.”
“I dare you to…Sit on the floor with me.”
“But floating is cool.”
“Down here now.”
“Yes ma’am.” I sank back down to the floor. “Ok, truth or dare?”
“Dare.”
“You sure about that?”
“Yes.”
“Then I dare you to kiss me, on the lips, right now.”
“C-can I change my mind?”
“No.”
“I’m not doing it.”
“It’s a dare, you have to do it.”
“No way.”
“Am I really that, horrible?”
“No.”
“Then kiss me.”
“Do I really have to?’
“Yes, yes you do, unless I don’t have to hug Takumi when they get back.”
“Oh a bargain hua?”
“Yep.”
“But I really want to see you hug him.”
“Well, if you get rid of that dare you don’t have to kiss me.”
“How long would I have to do it?”
“30 seconds at least.”
“Fine I guess…it wouldn’t be that bad.”
She started leaning in to kiss me and we got an inch away when the door bell rang.
“Perfect timing I’ll get it.” She said quickly getting up.
“Are you kidding me? Who ever it is I’m going to kill them.” I groaned standing up and walking to the front door.
Takumi was standing in the hall with his hands on his knees breathing heavily.
“What happened?” I questioned.
“People…from lab…in woods.” He answered.
“Lock all the windows and lock all the doors.” Mai said and the three of us went around and locked everything. “Light’s should be off too.”
Takumi was leaning against the wall in the hall. “Will you tell me what happened?”
“I jumped over the river.”
“And you fell in?”
“No I cleared it with no problem.”
“Isn’t that like seven eight feet wide?”
He nodded.
“I thought I was supposed to be the athletic one.”
“So did I.”
“You guys were gone for a while what were you doing?”
“I was showing Mai the property.”
“Umhm.”
“I’m serious.”
“And those people just kind of showed up?”
“Yea when we got to the apple orchard heading back to the house.”
“You guys didn’t get hurt did you?”
“No.”
Aki walked back into the room.
“Well that’s good.” I said hugging him.
“What are you doing?”
“Hugging you.”
“Why?”
“Just go with it, my pride is on the line here.”
“Alright then.” He looked at his wrist. “How long are you supposed to hug me?”
“30 seconds.”
“How many seconds has it been?”
“Aaaaa.”
“Fine just start now.”
Thirty awkward seconds later. “Okay you can stop now.”
I let go “Your wings are creepy.”
“Then don’t hug me.”
“I had to.”
“You played truth or dare didn’t you?”
“…Yes.”
“And how did that work out for you?”
I suddenly realized that her dare wasn’t complete yet. “Gotta go.” I stood up and walked away.
“Aki.” I called walking around the house looking for her.
I found her upstairs in the wreck room talking.
“What is it Haru?” She asked looking towards the door.
“I need to talk to you.”
She sighed and told Mai that she would be right back then came out of the room. “What?”
“We have unfinished business.”
“What?”
“I hugged Takumi, so you have to kiss me.”
“Fine.”
She stood up on her tip toes and we kissed. It didn’t feel like 30 seconds when she left me standing there in the hall. And she slammed the door shut.
I leaned up against the wall. “Whoa, that was, interesting.”
