~Haru~
Suddenly there was a hard knock at the door. I ran downstairs and found Mai. Without having to say anything, we went and found Aki and Takumi. “Aki, do you know who is at the door? What are they thinking?” Her forehead wrinkled up, and I couldn’t help but smile.
“They’re obviously from the lab, they don’t know if this is where we are or not. We should sit down away from any windows and stay quiet, they don’t want to break in, in case someone sees.” She whispered. We all nodded and went to the hall. We heard loud knocks on the windows every few seconds, and Aki jumped. ‘They’re getting mad.' I heard in my head.
‘Come here Aki, you’re scared, I can tell.’ I thought. She blinked at me and looked away. I reached over and took her hand. ‘I’m not gonna bite. Hard.’ I thought. I saw her smile for a second, and then slide over next to me. Takumi had his arm around Mai and she looked too dazed, so I couldn’t tell what she was feeling.
‘Idiot, what do you think she’s thinking?’ I heard.
‘Don’t trip don’t trip don’t trip?’ I smirked.
‘Smartass. She’s feeling… every emotion in the world.’ Aki thought to me.
‘She looks it.’
‘No, really?’
‘Don’t pick on me.’
‘It’s fun though.’
‘Ok, fine, I know you’re never gonna stop.’
‘That’s right.’ I squeezed her hand and looked at her. She was looking at Mai, and as Mai got a shocked look on her face, I knew Aki was doing her mind trick on her.
‘What are they talking about?’ I wondered. ‘Girls are really complicated, isn’t there a how to book on how to deal with them?’ I frowned and Takumi looked at me. He tilted his head and I rolled my eyes. He smiled.
~Mai~
I heard a few hard bangs in the door and I froze. Haru came around the corner, and we both went and found Aki and Takumi. We all looked at each other, I was really nervous already. Aki said that they were people from the lab. I shook my head, I really didn’t want to run from them again. Takumi touched my shoulder and we went to the hall. The knocks on the windows made me feel trapped, and I was also angry. Why did this all happen to us? I felt an arm around my shoulders and I looked at Takumi. He just smiled and leaned his head against the wall. His arm was really warm, and it was really comforting. ‘It’s sad, he doesn’t like me, yet all these things he keeps doing to me, is making me like him that much more. He’s torturing me, and I both love and hate it. I’m so confused. And these doctor people are only making it worse.’ I noticed Aki looking at me.
‘Just enjoy it, I know I am with Haru.’ I heard in my head. My eyes widened.
‘What?’
‘I’m talking to you in your head, I can answer people without opening my
mouth now.’
‘Oh.’
‘His hand is really, strong, but it’s also, gentle at the same time.’
‘Good.’ I didn’t know what else to say.
‘Like I said, just enjoy it, they just want to protect us.’
‘I want to, but I don’t want to get my hopes up, and then go back to being just family in his mind.’
‘Just take what you can get for now.’
‘Ok.’ I laid my head on Takumi’s shoulder.
“Don’t be scared Mai.” He whispered. I smiled a little.
“Alright.” I muttered.
“Why can’t I frickin read your mind?!” Aki whispered angrily.
“Because I’m awesome.” Takumi whispered back.
“Duh.” Haru grinned.
“Shut up!” She glared.
“Don’t tell him to shut up.” Takumi said.
“No one asked you!” Angry whispers were being thrown back and forth.
“Aki, are they gone yet?” I asked. Everyone stopped.
“I, don’t hear them anymore.”
“Well, stay here, Haru and I will go and see if it’s safe.” Takumi stood up and my shoulder suddenly got cold.
“What?”
“You heard me helium breath.” Takumi smirked helping Haru up.
“If it weren’t for the girls here, I would shove you out the door and yell real loud for those fruity scientist people.” Takumi laughed and they went towards the front door.
~Haru~
I grabbed the door handle and peeked out. I didn’t see anyone, and I stepped out. Takumi and I walked the perimeter, and didn’t see anyone, and Takumi didn’t hear anything. “So, why did you have your arm around Mai?” I asked.
“It was pretty obvious that she was scared, wouldn’t you have done the same thing with Aki if she was afraid?” ‘Oh my god, he is so blind. How can Mai like him?’
“I guess so.” We decided it was safe so we went back in.
“Hey they’re gone.” Takumi said as he turned the lights back on.
“You sure?” Aki said standing up.
“No, I just glanced outside and didn’t see anyone. I even kept my eyes shut so that I could hear better while I was talking to Haru who was singing loudly that 4 genetically mutated teenagers were hiding in the house.”
“Where do you come up with this stuff?” Aki asked shaking her head.
“From the static that plays in my mind I guess.” He smirked. He got punched.
“OUCH! ABUSIVE!” Takumi whined.
“WELL KEEP MAKING COMMENTS LIKE THAT!” Aki yelled back.
“I WILL!” He grinned.
“Now now, Takumi, listen to the lovely lady, or the police will never find your body.” I chimed in.
“Haru knock it off or you’re gonna be in the same situation.” Mai laughed.
“Yeah, or else, maybe your nightmare will come to life.” Takumi wrapped his wings around me, and I screamed.
“NO NO NO, LET ME GO!” I felt like I was spinning and I wanted it to stop.
“Now why? You know you like it.” Takumi whispered.
“I CAN’T BREATHE, STOP IT I’M BEGGING YOU!” The blackness disappeared and
Takumi was on the floor. I felt myself hit the floor and I tried to catch my breath.
“TAKUMI YOU COULDN’T GET MORE EVIL, HOW DARE YOU WHEN YOU KNOW THAT HARU CANT STAND IT?!” Aki screamed.
“OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW!” Takumi was being dragged away by the ear, while he was still on the floor. Mai came over and helped me up.
“Are you ok Haru?” She asked.
“I’m, ok.” I blushed. “It’s such a stupid fear.” I muttered.
“Don’t worry about it, no one can control what they are afraid of.” She took
me over to the kitchen and got me some water.
“Thank you Mai.” I gave her a hug, and then I heard someone clear their throat. I looked over and Aki was leaning against the doorframe.
“What’s going on here?” She smiled a little.
“What’s it look like, I’m giving the only one who is ever nice to me a hug.” I shot back.
“Now that makes me sad Haru, I just gave Takumi the beat down of his life and you don’t even appreciate it.”
“Mai, help me!” I heard Takumi’s muffled voice. Mai let me go fast and rushed towards the sound.
“Aki, what did you do?!” She said frantically looking around for him.
~Mai~
“Takumi, where are you?” I asked.
“In here.” I noticed that two cabinets were tied shut with a belt. I undid it and The cabinets flew open, and Takumi rolled out onto the floor. His hands were duck taped behind his back, and there was a large wad taped to the one special spot on his wing. “I can’t move. Take the tape off my wing.” He asked.
“That’s smart Aki, easier than holding down on it.” I said loudly.
“Thank you Mai!” She answered.
“Do you really want up?” I questioned.
“Yes please.”
“Are you going to do that to Haru again?”
“Probably.”
“Ok, bye.” I turned and started to walk away.
“No! Fine fine, I won’t I won’t!” He cried. I looked at him and smiled.
“You look so helpless.” I commented.
“Just help me up!” He pouted.
“Maybe in a minute, you kinda deserve this.” I sat down on the floor next to him.
“Oh come on.” He muttered. I didn’t say anything, I just watched him. “Mai, I really do have something to tell you.” I felt my face heat up.
“What is it?”
“Come closer.” I did, unable to fight it.
“You’re the most angelic,” My heart raced. “…jerk I have ever met.” I actually slapped him before I could think.
“Almost as painful as Aki. I’m sorry, I didn’t think that would offend you that much.” I ripped the duck tape off his wing. “Ouch! Thank you.” He hopped up. “Now get my hands.”
“No.” I answered.
“What do you mean no?” He turned and tipped his head.
“No.” I crossed my arms.
“Fine.” He lowered his arms and stepped backward through the gap between his arms.
“What are you doing?” I questioned.
“Getting out of this.” He was now pulling on the tape with his teeth. I sighed and walked over to him. I found the end of it and pulled it off. His wrists were beat red. “Ahh, they are numb too.” He muttered. “She is so evil. I’ll get her back though.” I couldn’t even look at him. ‘Does he really think I’m a jerk?’ I wondered.
“I don’t think that you’re a jerk, its just you wouldn’t help me.” He mentioned.
“Can you read minds too?” I asked.
“No, it was just written all over your face.” I blushed.
“What’s wrong?” He blinked at me.
“Nothing.” I looked down.
“Oh, okay.” He hugged me. “Thank you for getting the tape off my hands.”
“Yeah, no problem.” I muttered. ‘Enjoy it.’ I remembered what Aki had said to me. I wrapped my hands around him and laid my head on his shoulder.
“Are you tired?” He asked. ‘Oh my god, really?’ I sighed.
“Yeah, I guess so.” I answered.
“Two choices, sleep out in the living room, or sleep in my bedroom.”
“Uhh…Well, maybe not the living room, Haru and Aki are probably in there, and sooner or later they are gonna make out I’m sure.”
“WHAT?!” Takumi exclaimed making me jump.
“Isn’t it obvious that they like each other?” I asked.
“They like each other?”
“Uh…”
“Now I have even more jokes I can stick him with, thanks Mai!”
“Don’t make fun of them, they’re scared to tell each other.”
“I can help them along with that.”
“A minute ago, you were clueless to the fact they love each other!” I let him go and glared. “Don’t make me regret telling you about this.” He sighed. “I mean it, it’s not a good emotion to play around with.” ‘Not like you would know’ I thought.
“But it’s fuuuun!” He waved his hands back and forth.
“Takumi, please, let them figure it out.” He sighed yet again.
“Fine.”
“please please please promise me. Think before you say something stupid to them.”
“Well, sometimes I don’t think.” I brushed past him.
“You really should start.”
“That’s not what I meant, you know I think!” He said.
“That’s not what I meant either.”
“What?”
“Never mind.” I muttered.
“No come on tell me.” He said following me.
“You wouldn’t understand Takumi.”
“Try me, I’m a complicated person.”
“Drop it Takumi.”
“NO.”
“YES!”
“NO!”
“Takumi, stop. I can’t tell. Not right now anyway.”
“But why not?”
“Just because Takumi. I can’t.” I said quietly as I stopped walking.
“Mai, I want to know, please.”
“I’ll tell when I’m ready.”
“Fine, I won’t push the mater any more, I’m going to go up to my room.”
“I thought I was sleeping there?” I asked.
“I never said I was staying in my room.” I felt my face get a little warm.
“Oh.”
“I’m going to go and fly around for a bit.”
“Ok, um, have fun then.”
“I don’t know how long I’m going to be gone so if you guys go home before I get back, I’ll say bye now.”
“Bye.” I said quietly.
“Bye Mai.” He muttered then opened the window and flew off.
“Stupid, he is so oblivious to everything I say and do. I wanted him to fly me home.” I yawned. “Well, bed then I guess.”
“Oh right, Mai, one more thing.” He popped his head in through the window.
“What is it?”
“Do you want a ride home, I promise I won’t go to high.”
“Uh, sure, I guess. Thanks.” I hid my enthusiasm. Not that he would have noticed it any ways.
“Well come on.” He said holding out his hand. I took it and was yanked out of
the window.
“JERK!” I screamed. He laughed. We got to my house in under a minute. He set me down. “T-Thanks.” I stuttered.
“You’re welcome.” He smiled and waved then took off again. I smiled, and then walked in. My aunt was working, so I was the only one home. “What a weekend.” I sighed flopping down on the couch.
