Heart to Heart

~Mai~

“They would love you, no matter what. Granted they would be upset that you went to the building in the first place, but you’re here. A little different, but you’re still Takumi.”

“I don’t want them to be disappointed in me.”

“Whats the worst thing that could happen if you told them?” I asked.

“I think they would, not consider me a son anymore.” I got up from the game chair and sat down next to him and weaved my fingers through his.

“That could never happen, they love you so much.”

“Then why aren’t they here with me now?” He looked away.

“They’re holding a job, to give you the best life possible. I see the way they look at you when they are here, they miss you terribly. But they’re so proud of you, you’ve had to grow up fast, and that’s hard.” He looked at me and smiled. It took my breath away.

“You would know.” I looked away this time.

“I know my aunt isn’t, in the best of health. But as long as she takes her meds, her mental state is fine.” I said quietly.

“But a lot of the time, you’re like a babysitter.”

“Sometimes I gotta be.”

“But, that’s not fair.” He pulled me in and hugged me. I felt his wings wrap
around me and I hugged him back.

“No, it’s not. But that’s life.” He shook his head. I felt, safe and happy, and I trusted him so much. Maybe, now’s the time… “Takumi?” I asked quietly.

“Mai?” He answered. I took a deep breath.

“I-I’ve been wanting to tell you something for a while now.” I started.

“What is it, you can tell me anything.” He said.

“Well, I, umm, I-“ The door bell rang and Takumi brought his wings back and stood up.

“Hold that thought.” He went over to the door and opened it. I saw two men wearing sunglasses and they pushed a rag to Takumi’s mouth. His eyes closed and he fell to the floor. I jumped up and shrieked.

“T-TAKUMI!” I turned and started to run, but one of them caught my arm and I felt them pull sharply, making me stumble.

“Don’t struggle, or your friend there will pay dearly.” The guy said in my ear.

“Get off me!” I pleaded. He pulled me towards the door and I tried to grab Takumi, but the other guy slapped me hard across the face. His nail must have caught me, because I felt something trickling down my face, and it hit my mouth, I could taste the iron in my blood.

“You idiot! The lady isn’t gonna be happy if you hurt them any more!” The one holding me hissed.

“Fine, then to just avoid the whole possibility of it happening again…” He shoved the rag to my face, and I instantly slipped into darkness.

~Haru~

I heard a knock on my door. I pushed my little sister, Jamie, out of the way to get the door first. It was Aki and I smiled. “Hey, what are you doing here?” I asked. She looked at me.

“What do you mean? You suggested we go out and do something today.” She said. I grinned. She glared after she realized I was playing around. Jamie poked her head between my arm and the door frame and grinned.

“Hi Aki!” She exclaimed.

“Hello Jamie, how are you today?” She asked with a smile.

“I’m great! What are you doing here?” I pushed her back and let Aki come in.

“I’m here because your brother asked me to hang out today.” She explained. I smiled. Great with kids.

“Haru, did you just invite Aki?” Jamie asked.

“Yes.”

“Are you two going on a date?” Her eyes got wide. I laughed and looked over at Aki. She was a little red in the face. She wouldn’t go on a date with me, look at her, she’s getting red at the thought of it.

“No, we aren’t.” I looked at Jamie. She frowned.

“Why not?”

“Just because Jamie.”

“Is that true Aki, you and brother aren’t gonna go on a date?” Wouldn’t it be something if she said yes…

“H-Haru and I are just friends.” She patted Jamie on the head. She crossed her arms and sighed.

“Fine, but you guys should sometime.” She mumbled walking away.

“W-What’s with her and this, dating stuff?” Aki asked.

“Oh, she’s been watching princess movies and stuff. You want a drink?” I walked into the kitchen.

“Sure, why not.” I was about to open the fridge when I felt a tug on my shirt. Jamie was looking up at me.

“What is it?” I bent down. She reached behind my head and yanked the hair tie out of my hair and ran. “HEY!” I chased after her, trying not to float and glide, even though I knew it would have been quicker.

“I ran out of mine I need to borrow it! Rai is coming over today to play with me!” She made a u turn and went back into the living room.

“Oh, Rai huh? You’re little boyfriend?” I laughed lightly trying to get a hold of her.

“Stop it Haru! He’s not my boyfriend, boys are icky!” She was like frickin water, I couldn’t get a hold of her.

“Is that true Aki? Are boys icky?” I asked.

“Yeah.” She laughed. I finally got a hold of the hair band and quickly put my hair back up. Jamie pouted.

“No fair, girls wear those, not boys!” She glared at me.

“Too bad.” I snickered.

“You’re mean!” She stomped. I felt a hand on my back and I turned my head a little.

“Aki?” I felt my hair fall forward and she handed the band to Jamie. Her eyes lit up.

“Thanks Aki!” She stuck her tongue out at me and smirked as she ran away.

“Traitor.” I looked at Aki.

“Yep. Besides, I haven’t really ever seen you with your hair down.” She walked around me. “Wow it’s long.”

“2 years of not really cutting it.” I shook it so it fell evenly.

“You look so different.” She tilted her head. I smiled.

“Is that good or bad?”

“I don’t know, just, different.” She said slowly.

“By different, I bet you mean hot.” I laughed.

“Fat chance.” She walked past me and into the kitchen. “And hey, you never got me my drink, you’re not very polite.” I mentally smacked myself. “Whatever.” She returned with lemonade.

“So, what do you wanna do today?” I asked her.

“You mean you didn’t have anything planned?”

“Nope.” I grinned.

“What do you mean no?” She looked at me.

“It’s all up to you.” I clarified.

“Well I don’t know what the hell to do!” She rolled her eyes.

“Then lets go out and eat.” I suggested, actually I just repeated what I had rehearsed at home. Hehehe I actually had this planned out for days.

"umm...okay, i guess we can, i had nothing else planned today." Fantastic.

“Ok, well, lets see…how about…That restaurant just downtown, the one that’s all stone?” Please say yes please say yes I have reservations there…

“But, that place is super expensive!”

“Don’t worry about it, I’m buying.” I smiled. Just. Say. Fine. Aki. I've already got everything ready...

"Alright fine we can go there." She sighed, pulling her hair out of the hair tie that she had in her hair and handing it to me. I grabbed it and threw my hair back up. “Hey, you really weren’t supposed to take it from me.” She grumbled. I grinned.

“You offered.” I opened the passenger door to my truck for her.

“I really hate your vehicle.” She buckled and crossed her arms.

“Oh well.” I slid in and drove us to the restaurant. I glared at the back of her head as she opened her door and hoped out fast. I was supposed to get the door. Ms. Independent anyways… We got to the platform thingy and they asked for a name. I told them mine and Aki looked at me strangely. They immediately took us to the back room and gave us a table in the corner by the window.

“Did you call in earlier?” She hissed as the waiter walked away. I just smiled. "You had this planned didn't you? Oh i knew i should have read your mind back at the house." She huffed but there was a slight blush over her cheeks.

“Guess you should have, but guess what sweet cheeks, I would have dragged you here kicking and screaming, do you know how hard it was to get these reservations?”

“No, and does it look like I care.” Her blush deepened. I knew it was a rarity for her to be taken out to a meal like this

“Actually, yes. And hey, I could have taken you to Chuckie Cheeses instead, but I didn’t think that was as classy as this place.”

"At least at chuckie cheese i can kick your ass at games."

“Hey now, I wanted to take you out for a nice meal, and all you want to do is run away from having a conversation with me, isn’t that right?” I raised my eyebrow and smirked.
