We Knew It Would Happen Eventually

*~Haru~*

“Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around?” I asked. I wanted to do that stuff for her, little brat…

“I figured it was the least I could do.” I sighed.

“Whatever I’m not going to argue.” I hid my smile, and my stomach rumbled. “Do you want to get popcorn?”

“We just ate.” She said shocked.

“I’m hungry.” It was true, I couldn’t help it.

“How can you be hungry you ate more than I did.”

“I’m a growing kid.” I stated.

“Yea you’re a kid alright.” Well, I graduated from a baby and a brat, to a kid, I’m slowly getting there I guess.

“I’ll take that as a complement, you seem to be good with kids, like my evil little sister.”

“She’s adorable! Unlike her older brother.” I saw her smirk.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I questioned

“Oh nothing.”

“Wait, you’re right, no, I’m not adorable, I’m hot.” I grinned, wondering what she was going to say to that.

“Y-yeah, full of hot air anyways.” I put on my best face for her.

“You could never say no to this face could you?” I asked. She looked up at me, and I hoped I wasn’t blushing as she smiled softly. She’s so pretty.

“No.” She said.

“I didn’t think so.” I said triumphantly.

“Actually, that was a statement, not an answer, quit being so serious.” I frowned. Not funny, I thought…meh whatever. I bought a large popcorn and was thankful there weren't tons of people in the theater. Like I was paying attention to the movie anyway. I kept looking over at Aki. Even though it was dark, I could see every feature on her face. I couldn’t stop looking, I wanted to lean over and kiss her, but I didn’t, because I didn’t want to scare her off. When we locked eyes once, I quickly looked away, and didn’t dare look back throughout the rest of the movie. When it was over, we walked back to the truck.

“So did you like the movie?” I asked, trying to make conversation.

“Oh yea, it was good, thank you for taking me.” She climbed into the passengers seat. And that was it, we didn’t talk on the way back to her house. We got there and I walked her to the front door.

“Maybe we could go for a walk later.” She suggested.

“Um, sure, what time?” I asked, a bit surprised.

“How about in and hour?”

“Sounds good to me.” I smiled. Then she hugged me, and I lost my breath.

“Thank you.” Then she kissed my cheek lightly and quickly, and then went in and shut the door behind her. I stood there for a second, my face burning up. I drove home, and went straight to my room, and crashed onto my bed.

“It’s time I told her, actually, I’m going to do it later, today’s the day.” I decided.

I went over to Aki’s house an hour later, like I said I would. I took a deep breath. I was going to do it today, and nothing was going to stop me. I rang the door bell and she answered. “Hey!” She smiled.

“Ready to, uh, walk?” I smirked. She nodded and shut the door behind her. We got part way down the street when she spoke.

“I need to talk to you about something.” She said quietly.

“Really, I do too.” I looked at her.

“You, do?” She asked.

“You like heights?” I asked.

“Well, it depends.” She answered confused.

“I was hoping for a no, but close enough.” I grabbed her and took off into the air as fast as I could and smiled.

“Put me down now!” Aki yelled as I held her. I was simply gliding through the air, 3 stories up off the ground. I laughed and swayed back and forth. She screamed and held me tighter. It felt nice.

“Like I’m going to let anything happen to you.” I said in her ear. I slowly descended and landed on the ground. I had taken us to the orchard, where the apple trees and blackberry bushes were. I sat her down by a tree and picked a nicely ripe apple. I sat beside her and handed her the fruit. She smacked it out of my hand and crossed her arms. I frowned. “Don’t be mad Aki.” I said. She stuck her tongue out at me and I smiled. I put my hand on her cheek and she blushed, looking surprised. I leaned over and kissed her. She pushed me away and slapped me. I looked at her and her hands were over her mouth. I touched her knee and she looked away. I took her hands in mine and tried again. This time she didn’t fight me. Her arms wrapped around my neck and she pulled my hair tie out. My hair fell forward and I felt her smile.

‘I’ve always liked you Haru.’ She said in my head.

‘So why did you keep pushing me away?’ I asked as we kept kissing.

“I just didn’t want you to know.” She answered.

“And how did that work out for you?” I laughed when we pulled apart.

“I ended up getting the most amazing guy in the world.” I said resting my head against his chest.

“You’ve always had me.” I said holding her to me.

“I-I guess so.” She muttered.

“I’ve liked you for a long time now, did it ever cross your mind that I did?” I asked.

“I think I was so caught up in my own feelings, and trying to hide them, that I never really took the time to think about it. I’m not the type of girl guys usually crush on.” She admitted.

“But that’s exactly it. You aren’t like the others. You’re unique, and special. That’s why you’ve always been my girl.” I said as I played with her hair. Her breath was warm, and it felt really nice.

“I’m sorry I’ve been mean.” She muttered.

“It’s ok, it was just you trying to reach out. I just never knew that you actually liked me. I was just waiting for the right time to tell you how I felt. Guess I could have done it a lot sooner huh?” I chuckled.

“I guess so.” She said quietly. I held her a little tighter.

“You’re so beautiful.” I whispered.

“No I’m not.” She answered.

“Stop Aki. From the first day we met I thought you were pretty, and then the years past, and you grew more and more lovely. That feeling has never ever changed.” I told her.

“I’m not though! I don’t wear makeup, I wear baggy clothes, sneakers instead of high heels, and-“ I cut her off.

“But that’s what makes you so gorgeous; you don’t need all that primping crap. You’re better without it, it makes you real. I love you Aki, boy shorts and all.” I smiled. She didn’t say anything, I just felt her relax some more, and I swung her legs over mine. She sorta curled up on my lap, and held me around my neck. The moment couldn’t have been more perfect.
