Survival

“I’m not leaving you here alone.” He said in my ear. I held my breath as the bedroom door opened and then the closet door opened. The light got flipped on and my heart stopped.

“I found them.” I felt the light hit my eyes and Takumi held me tightly, and we we got around the guy in the closet, but he had a knife, and he caught Takumi with it. I instantly went into survival mode. I saw his parents small balcony off the other side of the bed.

“Takumi! Use the balcony and try and fly!” I suggested. He ran and jumped off the balcony, but he must have had a cut on his wing, because we went tumbling down to the ground.

“Are you ok?” I asked.

“I’m fine.” He slowly stood up and his wings disappeared. “I just can’t fly.”

“We need to find a place to hide, we can’t go to my house though, it’s too small to hide in.”

“Right.”

“Lets go to the woods, and quickly, they’ll come after us soon.”

“Right, on it.” We started running, then I remembered the cut he got on his leg. I made him stop, and I ripped off the bottom part of my shirt and quickly tied it around the cut.

“A blood trail would be a dead giveaway.”

“thanks.” He said.

“Yep, now lets go.” We ran into the tree line, but before ling, Takumi fell. I turned and saw sweat beaded on his face. I touched his head, and he was sorta cold.

“What is it?”

“My leg hurts and it’s getting hard to stay awake.” I looked around and noticed a very small cave that was well shielded by vines and some bushes.

“Ok, come on, in there.” I helped him into the cave and made sure we were hidden by the bushes and laid Takumi down, with his head on my lap. He was breathing heavily and clutching his leg so hard that his knuckles were white.

“Please stay with me Takumi, don’t leave me alone…”

“I’m trying” I ripped off one of my sleeves and got it moist with the water on the cave floor. I wiped away the sweat and put the cloth on his forehead.

“I can’t keep my eyes open, I just want to sleep.”

“No, don’t sleep, please just a bit longer.” I begged.

“I’m trying.” He said quietly. I held him, and heard the men outside nearby.

“I don’t know! I didn’t see where, it’s useless in these damn woods to look for them. Lets just report back and call it a frickin day.”

“Fine but it’s your ass that takes the blame for this.” I heard them go off, and another minute later I spoke.

“They are gone… Takumi?”

"C-can I...go to sleep...everything is getting fuzzy."

I checked his lacerations. "They stopped bleeding, he lost blood, but not enough to make him this exhausted." I said to myself. Unless... "Takumi no! Whatever you do, don't shut your eyes, We need to get you to the house as fast as possible. I think you got poisoned."

"O-okay...." I helped him out of the cave, and I was his brace until we got to his house. Carefully, I set him on he couch, then I rushed around the house, and tried to remember anything that might counter poisons. I just ran into the bathroom and got the first aid kit then ran back out to him. His skin was freezing and his pulse had slowed way down.

"No, no..." I suddenly remembered that charcoal tablets could treat many types of poisons, so I found a package of 20. He needed to take 5 every 15 minutes. I ripped them open and gave 5 to him. "Chew and swallow." I said trying to keep calm.

He slowly chewed and it took him a minuet to swallow.

“Good, good, now, uh, just keep looking at me, I need you awake.” I said.
He moved his hand slowly and touched my hand that was close to him. "If...I start dozing off...do anything...to...keep me...awake." He responded and his eyes started closing.

"No Angel!" I yelled. His eyes snapped back open.
