I'm Sorry I'm Weak

~*Mai*~

They took me to a room that looked like laser tag could be played in. “Level one, you’re mission is to get to the key that is on the other side of the room and unlock the exit under the time limit. You’re time starts now. Begin.” I heard a lady over the speakers. I blinked and saw a red laser point at me.

“Ow!” I ran forward and saw my arm was burnt. I suddenly sprinted to the other side of the room and went to take another step when I saw a whole bunch of lasers turn on. I maneuvered my way through them and was almost to the other side, where I saw the key, but I ended up touching a laser. I fell and must have landed on the beams that were lower. I yelled and my back was stinging. I got back up and kept going. I managed to get through, and I got a hold of the key. I hit a few more lasers coming back but I unlocked the door. The lady from before stood in front of me, smirking. My whole body throbbed, and I was breathing heavy.

“Lucky, you had 5 seconds left. Now I bet you want to see your friend, well, come on then.” She pulled me by my wrist and led me to another room. I got tossed in and the door shut. I fell to my knees and tried to catch my breath.

"Mai...you're hurt." He said quickly, getting onto the floor and gently touching my arms.

“N-No, I’m fine.” I said keeping my eyes on the floor.

"No you're not you have burn marks on you. I'm sorry Mai...there were too many I thought I could take them." He muttered.

“It doesn’t matter, I’m ok.” I whispered.

“Mai, come here.” He held me gingerly and I closed my eyes.

“Those level things, do hurt.” I said.

"I passed level 6." He said.

“I’m sorry I’m not as strong as you are. I’ll be quiet now.” I said softly.

"No, no it's fine, I started before you did." He tried to reason with me.

“But still, you got hurt worse than me. So I need to shut up and deal with it like you did.”

"Mai." He smiled at me gently with his deep blue eyes "You're so cute even when you have a couple of burns."

“No I’m not.” I closed my eyes. He brushed some of the hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear.

"Don't lie to yourself." ‘Don’t look at him Mai, you’ll break down…’ I shook my head. "Mai..” He pulled my chin up. "Like I said you're cute." He smiled down at me.

“You’re cuter.” I stated. He laughed a little.

"I'll always protect you."

''I'll try to not need protection.''

"But I want to protect you."

''You do?'' I looked up at him.

"That's what guardian angels do." I said. I felt my eyes burn.

''I don't deserve you.'' I whispered. The door opened and I tensed up. I
grabbed Takumi’s shirt and got as close to him as I could get.

"You two can go home now. You're done for the day." The man from the day before said with a light smile on his face.

''Ok. Thank you.'' Takumi said. I glanced over and no one was standing in the doorway anymore. ''Let’s go home Mai.'' Takumi smiled.

''ok.'' I was slow to stand up, but I got up on my own.

“You got it Mai?” He asked.

“Y-Yeah.” I took a few steps and swayed. He grabbed my hand.

“What is it?”

“I haven’t had anything to eat or drink for a day and a half now.” I said.

"Then lets get back to my house so you can get something to eat." He stated walking along side me to make sure that I didn't faint. We got out of the building and I sighed.

“I’m such a pest.”

"No you're not."

“You’re always so nice to me, even when I’m not nice to myself.”

"Well everyone puts their self down." He said. I felt a breeze on my back, and suddenly realized that Takumi’s hoodie I was wearing had gotten torn to the point of no return.

“I’m sorry I ruined your clothes.” I apologized.

"Na don't worry about it they were old anyways."

“You have some of that burn cream stuff at home right?” I asked.

"Yea I'm sure we do."

“Alright.” We got back to his house and finally got up his mountain of a driveway. “I’m glad, we’re here.” I said.

"I'm glad that the pill that they gave me hasn't worn off yet considering that I left the crutches here." He laughed sheepishly rubbing the back of his head.

''Takumi, I-that's so you.'' I smiled.

"Well lets go in and get those burns wrapped." He said opening the door.

''Ok.'' I walked in with him and headed for the chair he usually sat in when he got hurt. He walked out of the bathroom with the cream and some wraps. ''You, do know that m-most of the burns are on my back right?''

"I'm aware." He said and set the things down on the table.

''umm... S-so do you want me, to t-take off the hoodie?'' I stuttered.

"No it's alright." He said and I heard a ripping sound. "It was about to get holes in it anyways." I was a bit relieved I wasn’t going to be topless, but I still felt strange with my back exposed.

''How does it look?'' I asked.

"It's actually not as bad as you think. At the most their first degree burns."

''Good.'' I rested my chin on the back of the chair. I gasped as something cold touched my back.

"It's just the cream." He mentioned.

''S-sorry, it’s just cold''

"Don't worry about it." You're going to have to sit there for about five minutes for the cream to set in before you can go and take a shower to get the excess cream off you back. I'll start making something for you to eat." He said walking away and turning on the faucet to wash his hands.

''Thank you Takumi.'' I said after he finished washing his hands.

"Don't worry about it." He answered

''Ok, I won’t.'' I smiled.
