I Can't Fight You

~*Mai*~

I fell asleep right after Takumi, and woke up in one of the holding rooms that we had been in before. I looked around and noticed Takumi was lying next to me. I sat up and turned so my back was to him, and brought my knees to my chest. I stayed like that for a bit, and then I heard Takumi wake up. “Mai?” He asked. I didn’t move. He must have sat up, because he groaned, like he was very sore. He got up and came around to face me, and pulled me into him. “It’s ok.” He said.

“I’m sorry. It’s my fault. Again, like it always is. I’m nothing but trouble and I can’t do anything right.” I gripped onto his shirt tighter.

“That’s not true, don’t you ever think that. You keep me alive everyday.” He looked down at me.

“Really?” I asked.

“Yes.” He answered. He touched my cheek and smiled. “Your cut is completely gone. No scar at all.” I sighed in relief, and then quickly felt his back up by his shoulder blades. I didn’t feel any sign of bullet holes or even the slightest scratch there.

“No bullet wounds.” I said in amazement.

“It was like it never happened. I feel ok.” He reassured me.

“I’m so thankful.” I smiled. He kissed me softly and then pulled back.

“So am I.” We both heard the sound of something being released, like a valve opening. “I think they’re gassing us again.” Takumi stated.

“No not again.” I wrapped my arms around him and he laid down, but I refused to let go, so he pulled me down with him.

“It’ll be alright.” I felt his wings as they started to flicker between being visible and hidden. “I told you, I’ll never let you go.” I closed my eyes, and gave in to whatever they had put into our room.

‘Where am I?’ I wondered. I was on something soft, lying on my side, and something very warm was keeping the front of my body warm. Suddenly I recognized a familiar scent. ‘Takumi.’ My eyes flew open and sure enough, he was holding me, sleeping soundly. We somehow ended up in his room on his bed. I just closed my eyes again and snuggled closer. A few minutes later he woke up and looked at me, confused.

“How did we get here?” He asked. I shrugged. He sat up and stretched.

“Would you like me to make breakfast?” I asked.

“It’s alright, I’m not hungry.” He answered.

“Oh, alright.” I blinked.

“I don’t know what came over me before.”

“You were like, super Takumi on steroids.”

“I don’t know what it was.” He said.

“Maybe it was like before when we were at the waterfall.”

“Maybe.”

“You’re worried.” I said concerned.

“I am. I don’t want to hurt anyone.”

“Well, you sure did a doozy on that lady that is always doing stuff to us.”

“I did?” He asked.

“You threw her up against the wall and then threatened her that if she ever hurt me again you would kill her.” I explained.

“Yeah, I remember saying that.”

“Well it’s good that you’re at least remembering some things when you get into that mode now.” I pointed out.

“Yea…”

“Please Takumi, talk to me. You don’t really think you would ever hit or hurt me do you?” I asked seriously.

“I-I don’t know.”

“Takumi…”

“I can’t control myself when that happens. ”

“The only thing that’s happened when you went into that was scream at me. You haven’t laid a hand on me.”

“Well that’s good to know.” He nodded a little.

“And even if you did, I would still love you.” I said truthfully.

“I don’t want to hurt you.”

“If you do, you do. I can take it.”

“Mai…”

“What?”

“I love you but please when I get like that, run away.”

“Run away?”

“Please.”

“W-What if you catch me, I can’t fight you.” I stuttered.

“Do whatever you did last time.”

“I didn’t really do anything. You came out of it by yourself, all I did was cry and beg you to stop. So if you don’t snap out of it and I run, can I really get away from you? Realistically? Let’s try it out.” And I ran as fast as I could away from him, out of his room and down the hall. I heard him behind me. I searched as I ran down the stairs for a hiding spot. I got down them and decided to try for the front door, so I ran into the living room, and I felt Takumi grab me around the waist and pull me to a screeching halt. “See? I stand no chance against you…” I said quietly.

“Then I don’t know what to do.” He whispered. I kissed him, as if to say that if it did happen, I would make sure I would be ok.

“I’m sorry Mai.”

“For what?”

“I don’t know what’s going on with me.”

“It’s ok sweetheart.” I tried to assure him.

“I wish I knew what was happening to me.”

“We’ll figure it out.”

“I hope so.”

“I know so.” I smiled. He kissed me this time, and I kissed back instantly, and hugged him tight.

“I love you.”

“I love you more.”

“Of course you do.” He smiled.

“No matter what.”

“I promise, I won’t let go.”

“Good.” I smiled.
