~*Mai*~
Finishing up eating, I set my plate in the sink and brushed my wrist against the faucet my accident. “Ouch…” My wrist was turning black and blue from where the guy had grabbed me earlier. I grabbed a small ice pack from the freezer and set it on my sore wrist. I walked into the living room. “That jerk bruised my wrist.” I muttered.
“Sorry to hear that Mai.” Takumi said. I was focusing on the ice pack.
“It’s fine it was just a little-” I looked over at him and saw Takumi had blond hair, and his eyes were a brilliant yellow. “S-Scared.” I stuttered dropping the ice pack and it hit the floor with a frozen thud.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you.” He leaned back on the love seat with his hands crossed over his head lazily.
“O-Ok…” I said cautiously.
“I just wanted some fresh air.” He said. I sat down on the other couch slowly.
“Fresh, air?” I asked.
“I’m stuck in Takumi’s damn subconscious all day and night. Also I just wanted to show off this little trick if mine being able to change hair color.” He smirked. “I’ll try to behave while I’m out.”
“Why would you have to behave?” I asked quietly.
“Because I can get fuckin’ mad easily.” Takumi answered. I flinched at the language he was using. I wasn’t used to it. I just sat there, not knowing what to really do. “Why are you so quiet? Talk damn it!” He suddenly said.
“O-Oh…O-Ok!” I answered a bit louder.
“So how long have you known Takumi?” He asked.
“Um, about 3 years I think.” I answered.
“Now it’s your turn to ask a question.”
“Are you Takumi? Or, are you something else?” I asked carefully, not wanting to upset him.
“I’m a different person. You know how Takumi was injected with a different DNA type? I’m also the result from that.” He explained. ‘Oh, so it is the lab who did this. I wonder if they are even aware of what’s happening…’ “-Are you fuckin’ paying attention to me? I asked you a question!” I was pulled away from m thought when Takumi raised his voice.
“Huh? Oh, s-sorry. What was that?” I blinked.
“I said, how long have you been in this town?” He repeated himself.
“I’ve been here for as long as I can remember, after my parents died in a car accident, I moved in with my Aunt. Um, are you always with Takumi?” I wasn’t sure how he was going to answer, because I wasn’t actually sure what I was asking anyways.
“I’m the side he never shows. He’s always so kind and acts like he’s not strong at all, but the pansy needs to get out of that and fuckin’ protect the ones he cares about damn it!” I crossed my arms and actually spoke up to him.
“He does protect people he cares for!” I defended Takumi. He looked at me and smirked.
“Ok then miss smarty pants, do you know how long Takumi has liked you?” I smirked back, knowing I knew the answer.
“Easy. Since that day he accidentally fell on me and kissed me. He told me so himself.” I said proudly. I had finally shown him.
“Wrong.” He smiled.
“What? No way!” I exclaimed.
“He’s been in love with you since the first time he met you. Unlike you, I have complete access to his deep subconscious.” Takumi flicked his hair to the side and I blinked. ‘Is that true?’ I wondered. “Your turn.”
“Ok, does it hurt Takumi when you take control of him like this?”
“No it doesn’t, it’s more your body feels strange and you’re light headed and you can’t do anything about it.” He explained simply. I was glad Takumi wasn’t in any pain. “Do you like your powers?” He suddenly asked
“I, think they are ok. I wish I could be able to fight better though. How would Takumi be able to get back in control?”
“Think the opposite of me and what do you get?” He laid back lazily again.
“Good manners.” I muttered under my breath. I wasn’t afraid of him anymore.
“No, it’s love. I come out when Takumi is mad.” He said with a sigh.
“But, if you’re a part of Takumi, don’t you love me too?” I asked.
“It’s only natural considering we’re the same, but it’s the actions of love. Just like when Takkumi get’s pissed at someone.” Then it clicked.
“Oh, so that means…” I trailed off. ‘I have to kiss him or something. An act of love allows Takumi to come back to the surface…’
“That means what?” He asked. I went over and sat next to him.
“I, um…” I scotched a little bit closer to him and looked down a little.
“What? Spit it out.” He didn’t move.
“An, act of love, right?” I asked and set my hand on the couch cushion near his leg.
“Yeah…so?” He looked at me funny and I just shook my head and sighed.
“You’re just like he is when it comes to stuff like this!” I accused him.
“Hey!” He seemed slightly offended but I didn’t care.
“It’s the same things!” I shot back
“No it’s not.” He poked me in the nose lightly. Smiling slightly, I turned so I was facing him.
“Yes, you’re just like Takumi.” I stated.
“No we’re nothing alike.” He answered instantly. I blinked, confused. He had contradicted himself.
“But, you said before you were the same person?” I asked.
“That’s not…” His face got red and he looked a little frustrated. “Oh just forget it.” He suddenly grabbed my arms and pulled me close to him and he kissed me. I was really surprised, but I kissed back lightly. His blond hair became lighter, whiter, and the tips melted into blue again. Takumi pulled back and opened his eyes, which were back to normal. His arms slid around my back and I hugged him. “Hey.” He said.
“You look lovely as a blond.” I said in his ear.
“Um…thank you…I was thinking of going back to my natural color for a while after this.” He pulled back a little and looked at me.
“I don’t know if you heard, but I found out a few things about what’s going on with you.” I smiled, proud that I had got some answers for him.
“What did you find out?”
“It was the DNA that the lab injected you with that is causing this other entity to develop inside of you. He said that you are the same, but you’re different.” I explained the best I could.
“How is that possible?” Takumi looked up, trying to make sense of it all.
“I don’t know…so, you’ve liked me since the day we met?” I asked.
“Y-Yeah…” His cheeks turned a light pink. “It just would have been strange telling someone I just met that they were really pretty. You know me…” I kissed his cheek lightly.
“I do…and I’m sure you want to cuddle right?” He nodded and I squirmed out of his arms and turned invisible. “Then come get me!” I took off running.
“Hey.” He chased me playfully. But then stopped. “Fine, I’m just going to get changed then.” He went to his room, and I followed silently. I watched as he took his shirt off, my face starting to get warm. Then he unbuttoned his pants. I wasn’t ready for this because I felt dizzy. I looked down, and the next thing I knew, I was opening my eyes and Takumi was standing over me. I was on something soft, so I must have fainted, and Takumi set me on his bed. “Well hello.” He smiled at me. “Are you alright?”
“Y-Yeah, sorry about that, y-you caught me off guard.” He smiled a little.
“Like my new clothes?” He asked, stepping back so I could sit up and see.
“It looks great on you, but anything does.” I added.
“Oh I’m sorry, this is probably more of what you’re looking for.” He unbuttoned his shirt all the way and I couldn’t help but smile and admire him.
“Well, I’m not going to complain.” I laughed.
“Oh, I got you something special.” He went over into the corner of his room and pulled out a large bag. Opening it, a lovely Lolita dress slid out of the plastic. My face must have lit up.
“It’s so beautiful, thank you, oh my…” I jumped up and took it in my hands. “Takumi, can we watch the sun set together? I want to have at least a perfect ending to this day.” I asked, setting the dress on his bed. I would put it on for him later, but right now, I just wanted to be with him.
“Sure, why not?” He smiled sweetly. We went to his parents bedroom, and out onto the balcony. Takumi leaned against the railing and I watched as the sun got closer to the tips of the trees, their shadows growing longer by the second. Takumi was watching me, and I was the happiest girl in the world. Then, I felt a prick near my neck.
“O-Ow!” I put my hand up and got dizzy.
“Mai, are you ok?” Takumi asked, but I felt myself fall back, and then nothing.
~*~
I opened my eyes, and sat up quickly. I was in a room, and Takumi was chained to the wall by his wrists. I went to crawl over to him, but was stopped by something around my ankle. I was also chained to the wall, but not as aggressively as Takumi was.
“T-Takumi?” I asked.
“Mai, are you ok?” He asked. I nodded.
“What about you?” I asked.
“Oh you know, just hanging around.” He said. I laughed a little bit.
“That’s not funny.” I shook my head.
“I got you to smile though.” We heard the door open and we saw the mean lady from before come in. She looked at Takumi and tisked.
“Now Takumi, you went and dyed your hair.” She observed.
“It was dyed before. Did you think it was natural before? If you did, you’re pretty stupid for a scientist.” He smirked. She came over to me and took my shackle off of me. Then she yanked my hair up hard.
“Ow ow ow! Stop it!” I yelled.
“STOP THAT! DON’T YOU TOUCH HER!” Takumi boomed as the chains clanked together.
“We need to test her new ability. Yes, we know about it. Force fields can really come in handy.” The lady had my wrists held together, and I couldn’t move freely.
“Don’t you dare hurt her.” Takumi said darkly.
“Well, we are going to go play a game, in the shooting range. We’ll test the strength of your barriers Mai.” She smiled evilly and dragged me out of the room. I screamed for Takumi before the door shut, but I knew I would have to depend on myself for a while.
