WipEout HD Freezes

Got a lot of PSN friends? Well, you can't play this game.

October 3, 2008 - Downloadbale content can be a funny thing. Sure, it's great to be able to get a game instantaneously, but sometimes things can go wrong. That appears to be the case with WipEout HD.

Some users -- including IGN's own Greg Miller and Jeff Haynes -- are having the game freeze their PlayStation 3s at the main menu and deny them the joys of futuristic racing. Internet reports and the experience of IGNers imply that the problem has to do with the number of folks on your friends list. When Jeff's PSN list was under 50 people, he could play WipEout HD without a problem. Once he added a dozen or so, WipEout refused to load. Greg has nearly 100 people on his list and has been unable to play the game since its launch.

Sony isn't prepared to comment one way or another on the friends list issue, but the company did release the following statement.

"Following the release of WipEout HD on PLAYSTATION Store recently, we've been following the reports by some members of the community regarding problems with game freezes," the statement reads. "We'd like to reassure you all that the WipEout team is working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible."
