Today's going to be my first day in the army. I'm going to be a member of the 2098th squad. I've been waiting for this day for a while now. I used to live in Haven, but moved here just to join the cause. Contrary to my mood though, I was going to be late by a couple of minutes. As most people in the city I had to stick to public transportation, but I sort of missed it. Only the wealthy and powerful can afford their own private transportation. I was going at a sprint through the snow to arrive on time.
Twenty minutes later I arrived at the Military HQ. The guards checked their list, yelled at me for being late, and let me in. My room was right by the entrance. I opened for the door hoping for the best...
Yes, two hot girls and one that looks like, with a little effort, she could be hot, pretty good ratio of guy to girls too. All of them looked a bit angry though. A girl with wings stepped forward. "Is this the idiot we've been waiting for so long." (Desmine Lopez)
She got a, "That's him." from a women in back. I recognized this women, it was the furors daughter. They must have high hopes for us if we're going to be under the orders of Captain Terse.
"So we can finally get started?" That one came from a slightly off colored man near the front. His right eye was replaced with some sort-of artificial one. I don't know how he lost it, but all I can imagine is it must have hurt a lot. (Jasper Adio)
"Yes , we'll get started now. Due to the irresponsibility of one of you, I'll have to make this quick." The Captain got some boxes and papers out. "First thing we'll get to is equipment. In these boxes you will find a standard issue knife and communicator. You will also find a uniform. The only one of these you're required to carry is the communicator. If you want to get the privileges of being recognized as a member of our military, I'd wear the uniform. Take them all with you, if you decide you don't want any of these return them later."
We each went up to get them. The uniform was a dark blue with plating on it. There was a flashlight attached to the wrist. The knife was exactly what you'd expect of a knife, long and pointy. The communicator looked a bit like an oversized watch. I strapped it onto my wrist right away.
The most normal looking girl there slammed her communicator on the table. Everyone looked at her, and she looked at her communicator. "This things pretty sturdy." she said. I think I'm going to like her. (K'satri Beins (Curiosity to a fault enough. :D))
The captain began speaking again. "As our friend has demonstrated, your communicators are very sturdy, you shouldn't need to worry about them breaking in battle. I ask that you refrain from testing the other equipment that way though." She held up one of the communicators. "You can communicate through voice or text depending on your need for silence." She pressed another button. The screen came up with a picture of me. I looked pretty good. "Your communicators have information on all of your other squad members. You can find things from their names, to their abilities and modifications."
She looked over at the discolored man from before. I looked him up, he was Jasper Adio. "I know what you may be thinking of doing with your communicator Jasper. Go ahead if you wish, but it will cost you money to replace it if it breaks." I looked down at my communicator in the abilities section to see that he could absorb machinery.
"Now, the reason this meeting had to be rushed is because you have all been assigned a mission."
"We have to start working already?" Lets see... that came from Rei Delta. He was surprisingly skinny with plenty of scars on his arms. I checked the device for more. They appear to be self inflicted for his bloods acidic properties. For someone who seemed a lazy, it was surprising he was devoted enough to inflict that kind of harm on himself.
The captain gave an obvious twinge of annoyance. "We are in the middle of a struggle of life and death with an enemy. Down time will be far and few between." She returned to addressing the whole group. "We have had issues in the city of Magnate. Surge Leeches are attack the area frequently due to their high energy production. There are two plants which currently need assistance from a Leech attack." She brought up a map.
"One is a solar power plant, and the other is oil. Your squad leader will select two groups of three. One group will head to the solar power plant, while the other the oil. I suggest you don't fire any fire arms at the oil power plant."
"No fire arms, come on!" That came from the interesting looking women with the giant gun. She gave off a bit of a Tom Boy feel. Let's see, another one to look up. Her name is Stephene Eleren. She doesn't seem to have much in the way of modifications besides some fangs. It seems her real strength comes from her gun.
"A gunshot could cause an explosion in the oil plant. It would be smart if your squad leader sent you to the solar power plant." said the Captain.
"I should probably be sent to the solar plant too, more open space." This one came from the women with wings. Her name is... Desmine Lopez, she was pretty cute. I didn't even check the communicator for her modifications, the wings were obvious from here.
Captain Terse turned a page. "Make sure to cause minimal damage to the power plants, very powerful individuals are donating a lot of money for this job."
"I think we're ready then. We should go." It was the girl who tried to smash her communicator before. She definitely warrants a look up. She is, K'satri Beins. Her abilities seem to be breathing in toxic places and underwater.
Captin Terse nodded. "Yes it's about time. You will be taking the metro there as shown on the map. I'm usually the one to pick squad leaders, but I have confidence in most of you. Pick a leader by vote on the train there." She checked her watch. Your train is leaving in a few minutes, you should leave now. The entrance to the metro is built into the side of the building. Good luck."
Everyone exited the room, not making any eye contact. I was the last to exit. We reached the station a minute later.
As we prepared to board the train K'satri tried to make some light conversation. "So any of you want to be our squad leader."
I chimed in, "Of course I do, I am clearly the most cut out for leadership out of the all of us."
We all sat down in the military cart. The metro was divided into two parts, civilian and military. The military half was much better maintained.
Desmine spoke up while trying to find a comfortable way to sit, her wings kept getting in the way. "You're not going to be our leader if I have any say in it." She gave up on trying to find a comfortable way to sit and stood up. "Especially after how long you made us wait."
I felt like an eagles pray with her looming over me. The cute ones are always the scariest. Everyone also seemed to agree with her position of me not being leader. "I hereby withdraw my candidacy then." The train started moving. "I would like my vote and endorsement to go to K'satri then."
Everyone looked at her, she was about to say something, but the announcements came on for the train. "*PING* We will be arriving at our station within three days."
We all sat quietly for a bit, waiting for someone to bring the leader discussion back up.
