We moved quickly and effectively. Only two shots to the outside of the building, and all the slugs were handled. Once they were removed inside, I used my flashlight to locate the breaker. Power=Restored. All in a days work.
Boop boop bee boop. (authors note: KIM POSSIBLE AWWWWWWE YEEEEEEAH!)
Well, my communicator was working now.
Captain Tess appeared on the screen, and behind me Rei and Seth were going on about his blinding people and reflective eyes. Why didn't something random like that surprise me anymore? Oh yeah, one word. Charles.
I listened to the prerecorded message at low volume. She... she wanted us to what? As I stood in shock for a minute after the message ended, I forced myself to recover and turn.
"Guys, we need to..." I was cut off as an unfamiliar voice broke in.
"Ah! You all cleaned up well!" A man walked in, wearing a solar uniform. "Thank goodness! Power was down for a most of the city! Solar energy really supports our own city here, coal is the major export. What we would do with out it!" The guy was all smiles and happy. My stomach turned, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
"Uh... y-you're welcome..." I muttered, unable to meet his eyes.
"Hey, what's wrong? You didn't loose any of you guys in here, did you?!" he asked.
"N-no! Not at all. It was just me and these two. Heh heh!" My mind was still on the order, and this guy's happiness was exactly opposite my state of mind. "Well, Seth, Rei, you guys head out to the car. I'll be out in a minute." My eyes were trained on the ground, but I felt, or maybe imagined, questioning stares on me. However, the two obeyed and left.
"Did you need something Miss...?"
"Lopez. Desmine Lopez. Call me Des." With a deep breath, I looked up and faced him, hardening my face. Orders were orders. "I'm sorry, but I just received new orders. You'll have to evacuate the building."
"W-what?! Why! You got all the Leeches, didn't you?" The guy was honest to god shocked. It made me really wonder what these people could have done.
"Yes. As much as I hate it orders or orders. You need to leave. Now." He stiffened, then ran out of the building. Following him more slowly, I paused in the doorway. Turning back, I pulled one sharp arrow out and knocked my bow. The fuse box was still open.
Aim.
Careful.
Steady.
Stop shaking.
Do it.
It's orders.
There must be reasons.
Stop doubting.
Aim...
Aim.
Aim!
AIM!
Snap.
One quick arrow, one quick spark, and the several wires of the fuse cut. The entire plant was shut down. It wouldn't last long, granted. But it was down. Just like orders said. They'd have to repair the wires. And at a plant like this, electrical tape just wouldn't cut it. It would require replacing the entire line.
Turning around, I walked swiftly to the vehicle where Rei and Seth were waiting. "What the hell did you do?!" Rei asked. "Why would you take out the power?!"
"Orders are orders. I'm sorry. They still have the coal plant. Now lets go." I didn't meet anyone's eyes. It was my fault. It sucked. Life has to move one, right?
