Me and Charles moved quickly, until I thought of something. "You go on and find the others. I'm going to check around for some doctors or nurses. I'll be there!" Before he could object, or maybe he did and I just ignored him, I moved quickly down a different hall. I didn't see anyone. They must have taken shelter somewhere.
Before I realized it, several turned had taken me back to the edge of the building. Outside, Fai was playing with some poor child, not far from the building. Realizing I had just put myself into a bad position, I turned to escape view from the window, wings still dragging and quite sore. Then she must have grown tired with her toy, because there was a burst of heat and the window erupted. I was mostly out of the way, but my wings took a few more small shards, and the heat melted even more on my wings. It put me over the edge.
My wings were too heavy. Blood was flowing faster, and I could feel my pulse in certain areas. The weight had pulled a few flight feathers and quite a bit of down fluff. I slid down the wall sideways, pulling my knees in and relaxing my wings entirely, letting them limply lie against the cold floor. I told myself it was just for a minute, to regain energy. I told Charles I'd be there. I had to be strong. I was a strong, independent woman. I had my eyes squeezed tightly closed, until I heard footsteps. They weren't Charles' heavy thud, but they sounded like...
Next thing I knew, I was being scooped up off the floor. Opening my eyes, Rei had me pulled against his chest. I opened my mouth to protest, but bit my tongue instead. It was true, we needed to move, and my trying to be independent would slow us down. When we reached everyone else, he let me on my feet. My muscles were still sore, but they were recovering. There was still no way I could pick my wings up, so I let them drag. Jasper pulled up a map, and we started out in the new direction, while Seth, me and a doctor half heartfelt tried to remove some glass. It was still hot, and most of it was attached to at least two feathers. It hurt like [dumbledor puppet pal swear here].
Until we were stopped. One of the Stern members blocked our path. Sally. She ranked even higher than Fai. Known for her hallucinogens. Rei stepped out in front of us.
"Rei, don't. Fighting her is not an option! We have to find another route!" I muttered to him. She looked quite happy to see us though. I doubt she would let us run so easily. "We might be able to destract her. Then we can..."
"Awwwe! Sally found them first!" A high pitched voice came from behind. Whirling around, my eyes widened. At the other end of the hallway stood Fai, hair blazing, hands covered in flickering gloves of fire. "I wanted to play with the Soldiers!" There was the usual wild, uncontrollable look in her eyes. "Can I at least have one~?" she whined. "Don't be a hog!" She took a step closer, and I could already feel the heat coming off her.
We were so screwed.
