Nathan watched from the craft in which they'd arrived as Sally, Glory, Fai, and Roset took off toward the Hospital. He sighed, bored, and his third arm flipped the page of his book. He sipped his tea, and looked in the general direction of the Hospital with the fourth eye. Surly those four would be fine on their own. After all, they all outranked him.
Rank was something that Nathan didn't understand. How could you compare two completely different soldiers and organize ten based on those separate talents? Oh well, he wasn't about to send a complaint…
After reading a few more pages, Nathan found it hard to focus. He was hungry and there was a field of people. He was bored and there was a Hospital probably full of strange books. But most of all, he wanted to see the looks on people's faces as his teammates battled. They wouldn't be expecting an attack from anywhere but those four demons. Too bad for them.
Nathan unhinged and hinged his jaw and began to salivate. His second arm wiped at his chin as his climbed out of the vehicle. His teeth raked over his tongue, leaving a metallic flavor at the back of his throat.
Time for dinner.
…
K'satri stared down an empty hall, screams and explosions sounding al around her. Though it sounded like she was in the thick of the fighting, she was actually quite alone…and quite lost!
"Shit…" She muttered to herself. She turned her body so that she could see to her right since the bandages covered that eye. She followed the sound of fighting and soon she ran right into a hallway that felt like an oven. Whatever was going on, she was close.
Satri picked up speed. Were her teammates ok? Charles was already badly injured and she'd heard gunshots earlier.
"Damnit!" she shouted as she made her way down the oven-like hall. She didn't even have her communicator to see what was going on. Her gills peeled open as her lungs began to burn for air. She pumped her legs harder, trying to get to her team a second faster.
Suddenly, the hall opened and she saw her team fighting for their lives. The odds, however, didn't seem to be in their favor. They were surrounded by people in white uniforms. They were mercilessly attacking her friends.
The Stern.
…
Nathan had been following her for sometime. He knew she was lost, that just made for an easier target. But he wanted to see if she could find her way to the other soldiers. He could see that she was injured, the others probably were too. Too bad he couldn't eat her. He wiped a thin line of drool from his chin and crept forward.
When she found the others, Nathan was mildly surprised. He looked around at the other stern and made eye contact. A few snakily greeted him with sayings like, "finally" or "Go back, we have this under control." He ignored them.
He watched as the girl with the gills stood by one of her teammates and fought one of his. How pathetic. They would never stand a chance. Then Nathan saw Sally in a pool of what appeared to be blood. She was their "best" yet these low-class soldiers had reduced her to a deformed nuisance. He made his way over to his comrade and with his elongated right arm, picked her up.
"Looking fine as always Miss Nightmare." Nathan said nonchalantly and a gust of wind and swearing energy buffeted him from one of Fai's blasts.
"It's nothing that can't be fixed." Sally said distantly. It was obvious that she didn't seem to grasp the severity of her wounds. The blood that surrounded her pooled around the area and dabbed at one of Nathan's toes. He flinched away and looked up at the man with cat eyes and a bloodied arm.
Maybe they'd underestimated these soldiers. Either way, despite her protests, Nathan wrapped his second right arm around what was left of Sally and held her firmly to hs back. He felt her teeth as she bit him, trying to make him let go, but he refused. With two free arms, he grasped his trident and released the third switch. The center spike began to rotate violently.
Nathan faced the injured, cat-like man, avoiding the blood on the ground, and prepared himself for a fight.
