~Charles
I had been wandering through the halls for a few minutes now. The halls were very dully colored white, with only numbers on them. The floors were also white, with different colored lines on the floor leading to different locations. My current path was the blue line on the ground, it apparently led to the cafateria. The hall was fairly crowded with soldiers. It was clear that Terse had gotten a pretty good set-up here.
As if reading my mind, Terse had appeared at the end of the hallway, and she looked pretty pissed. The men in the hall moved to the sides of the hall to make way for their superior officer. She rushed past them and me in the direction I had just came from. The men resumed their usual tasks once she had passed them.
I arrived at an automatic door that glided open at my aproach. The blue line ended there and I went indside. This room was definitely not the high point of the facility, and most likely had more health code violations then you could count on one hand, which was too bad, because I only had one hand to count them on.
On approaching the counter on the far end of the room, a women in a hairnet came over to me. She gave me a look over, and saw my arm. "You must be one of the people Terse told me about. Your lucky, she made sure you get the good stuff for dinner." She put the cover on a container full of what looked like flubber, and went into a cabinet. "This stuff was apparently a delicacy, atleast that's what our historians say." She put a small white sponge looking thing on the table that was wrapped in plastic, most of its labeling had worn away, except for a giant red T. "We believe they were called Twinkles, like a star. They are a miracle substance that can never go bad. Even with our modern day technology, we can't make something like this without making it 99% perservatives, and that would basically be poison for your body, and no sane person would eat it. Our past soceity must have been amazing to make this." She seemed to hesitate parting with this ancient treasure, but finally handed it to me.
"Do I need to pay anything for this?"
"No, Terse said it was free for your group." She mumbled.
"What was that? Speak up, your mumbling."
"I said yes, five dollars." She mumbled this also.
"Did you say it was fifty dollars?"
"Yes." This time she was loud and easy to understand.
"Oh, is that all? It's almost as cheap as commoner food." I took out fifty dollars, gave it to her, and took my Twinkle. I saw her quickly put the money in her pocket. They really need to get a cash register for her.
I moved throught the rows of tables looking for a spot to sit. The tables looked a bit like futeristic picnic tables. I slowed down and made eye contact with the best person ever. "REI, HOW YOU DOING BUDDY!" He suddenly looked down. What a shy kitten.
I walked over to their table. To Rei's left, was Des, and to his right was what looked like a lab girl. I sat on the other side of the table, facing Rei. "How is my favorite furry doing!" Furry had a :3 on his face, unlike Des who had a scowl on her face. Des kept giving the I'll kill you look to the lab girl.
Rei finally acknowledge my presence. "Not even you could spoil my fun time now Charles."
"Silly, I'm a fun multiplier. NO THAT'S NOT EVEN GOOD ENOUGH. I'm the exponential growth of fun. FEAR ME!" The lab girl next to him looked at me like I was crazy. "Who's your friend?"
Furry got the :3 back on his face. "This is Martha. She works with Korika. She was with her back when she tested on me."
I was a bit puzzled. He shouldn't be happy to see anyone that has poke, proded, and damaged him this much unless it was me.
Furry continued, "She was probably the only reason I survived the testing. Martha kept me company, and talked that nut professor out of doing the really dangerous stuff. We actually dated for a short bit, but we had to seperate because the Professor had dragged her to a different city."
Des gave a bit of a twitch like he was about to kill either Rei or Martha. I felt like I had been robbed. People were suppose to try to kill me.
