Art Material of the Day: Copic Markers

It has been forever since I have posted. Anyways, the art material of the day is Copic markers. A Copic marker is an art marker that contains an alcohol based ink that is great for illustration and manga. There are three types of copic markers: Copic, Copic Sketch, and Ciao. The original Copic marker comes in 214 colors. It has varied nibs that can be changed constantly. The Copic sketch marker is what I use in my artwork. It is the ideal material for manga artists and designers. The Copic Sketch marker comes in 310 colors and spreads easily. It only has two types of nibs though. The Ciao Marker is like the Copic sketch but holds less ink and is the less expensive of the three types of markers. It comes in 144 colors.
The only problems I can think of when Copics come to mind is that the smell is not very pleasant and that they are so expensive. But Copics are wonderful art materials for manga and are worth every penny that is paid.

Techniques for hair with Copics:

1. make a sketch.

2. outline with water proof inks or make a cleaner copy and photo copy the drawing.

3. When coloring hair, I first lay down a layer of E40 Brick white (excluding highlights).

4. I then cover that with a base color of my choice (I usually use blues and greens).

5. I then start layering with other shades of that color for shading effects.

Paper corner:
For Copics, the best papers are smooth and absorbant like color copy paper or plain copy paper. I have heard that the back side of manga manuscript paper is good for it to.

I know that this was short but I hope this helps ^_^.
