~*~Part 4~*~
Aberius
The Mt. Moon caverns were tricky. They had twists, turns, and natural traps around nearly every corner. It was dangerous for most humans, which is why the Absol village is left alone. This left Aberius to wonder exactly how this strange girl managed to get so far into the caves without so much as a scratch on her. Aberius looked over out of the corner of his eye at the girl he had (somewhat unwillingly) agreed to accompany to the entrance of the caves. Kitty was smiling to herself and humming as she walked along willfully.
What do I even know about this girl, really? ABerius frowned to himself. I agreed to walk along with her, but... I guess I am indebted to her for helping me with my wounds... This girl, she's weird, always smiling, fast, a pervert, small, cute... Wait what...? he blushed realizing where his train of thought was going. He shook his head and regained his composure.
"You're strange, did I mention that?" the young Absol stated glancing at her.
"Yep you did," she said, smiling back. Aberius quickly looked straight ahead, avoiding eye contact.
"How did you make it in here without running into any of the traps or strong, wild gijinka?" he inquired.
"Hm?" Kitty turned to look at him. "Ah, I dunno. I just turned one way, turned another, and just kept moving forward... Guess maybe there's no mushrooms in here, after all..."
"Gee, how ever did you figure that out...?"
Kitty bopped Aberius on the head, "Abbie, don't be a sourpuss, now. Anyway, how are your injuries. You holding up okay?"
Aberius holding his head looked at Kitty, "Yeah... it still hurts, but it's bearable..." He sighed, musing, She might actually be nicer than she seems... They turned around another corner and heard a grumbling sound. "Was that your stomache...? Please tell me it was..."
From behind a large rock came a wild Makuhita gijinka. He stared at the two of them with his slitted eyes and raised his arms.
"Maku...!" he yelled. He didn't seem to be one of the gijinka that understood human speech.
Oh great... Aberius started to feel cold sweat run down his neck. We just had to run into a big guy, didn't we? And he's a fighting gijinka... I'm no good against those types... Aberius bit his lip. He contemplated taking Kitty and running a different way, when he saw her digging through her bag. What is she doing at a time like this? That thing probably wants to flatten us right now!
Kitty pulled out a sandwich and threw it off to the side of the cave, "There you go, enjoy Big Guy." The Makuhita's eyes followed the sandwich and and waddled after it.
"Maku maku..." he picked up the sandwich and took a bite, grumbling appreciatively. While he was eating, Kitty grabbed Aberius' hand and walked down the path the wild Makuhita had originally been blocking.
"Bye bye, Maku-san! I hope you remember me in the future!" Kitty said, waving back at the Big gijinka. The gijinka smiled and waved back sitll chewing on his lunch. So he does understand after all...? Aberius thought.
"He was just hungry," Kitty stated smiling to herself again. Aberius noticed she was still holding his hand.
"You can let go, now..." Aberius muttered, feeling slightly uncomfortable, "and why are you leading the way, now?"
"Nope," Kitty said bluntly. "I can smell the flowers that were by the entrance to the cave."
"What...?" Aberius sniffed the air and sure enough he smelled something fragrant. "Are you sure you're human?"
"Of course I am, I just evolved from a Skitty," she said with a big grin.
"I'm not going to take you seriously anymore... but I could see that. You've got the same goofy grin. I've seen pictures of Skitties..." Aberius thought, remembering back to a "certain" magazine he'd aquired, and blushed.
Soon, light started to shine from up ahead the two. The entrance was right around a last corner.
"All right!" Kitty shouted excitedly. "We're finally out!" She ran ahead. Aberius sensed that there was something not right. He looked at the ground up ahead and noticed the color was different from the surrounding area. Crap! he ran after her.
"Look out! Don't take another step!" he yelled after the girl.
"Huh?" She said turning around, but it was too late. She'd stepped on the edge of a pitfall and began to disappear below the ground. Aberius leaped forward, grabbing her wrist.
"Unhf...!" he grunted as he landed on his bad side. "Kitty! Are you alright down there?"
Kitty looked up at Aberius, with a couple tears in her eyes, "I think so..."
"Hold on, I'll pull you up," he said, using all his strength to lift the girl out. She was small enough that he easily managed to remove her from the trap, and he set her down next to himself. Aberius looked over the edge and saw sharpened sticks at the bottom. He shuddered at what might have happened had he not made it. He turned his attention to Kitty. "Are you really okay?"
"... My ankle hurts... I think I twisted it on the way down," she replied.
"Let me see," Aberius removed the shoe and sock, being careful not to hurt her. Sure enough, her ankle had begun to swell and was blue-ish purple in color. Aberius felt a twinge of guilt.
"Hey, Abbie," the young male looked up in response. "Thanks, you did a good job of getting me to the entrance." She grinned. "You held your end of the deal and you can go back, now."
"What, how can you say that?" Aberius' brow furrowed. "You're obviously injured and I don't think you should be walking on that."
"I'll be fine, I've walked on a broken leg before." she continued to grin, a slight tear in her eye.
"Didn't I say I wasn't going to take you seriously anymore?" Aberius lifted her in his arms. Kitty wrapped her arms around his neck to steady herself.
"Don't you have to go back to your village?"
Aberius sighed, "I thought about it, and you're pretty much right." He frowned, but with a sad expression in his eyes. "There's really nothing for me in that village." I don't have any family or friends, and my only possessions are the clothes on my back and whatever's in my pockets..." He thought back to his graphic novels and magazines and decided he could live without them. He began carrying Kitty around the pitfall and toward the entrance.
"So does this mean that you're going with me on my journey?" she looked up at him.
Aberius exhaled through his nose, "I guess... Yeah, I am." if his hands were free, he would've scratched his cheek, but he just pouted.
Kitty giggled and leaned up and gave him a peck on the cheek, "Then from now on, you're my companion," she smiled widely.
Aberius looked at her with a surprised expression and at a loss for words. Shaking it off, he just continued walking towards the light to the outside world that would lead to his new future.
~*~To Be Continued...?~*~
So here's part 4! I'm debating whether or not to make this the end of the "Memories o.t. Past" series. There's more he'll think back on in the past, but I'm thinking it might be under a different title. Like a sequel or something. X3 What do you guys think? Either way, there's more about Abbie's past to come! (I might just continue under the same name, since there's something related to this story that he'll do... then again, maybe not XD) Until next post! =D
