Mission

I shivered. The wind gusted against me, swirling my hair around my face. I wouldn't be able to wait for them much longer. My presence behind enemy lines might have already alerted someone. The shadows in these woods were deep, and could hide anything. I didn't want to be around if some demon awoke. There was a slight rustling beside me, making me jump. It was Vince.
His bright yellow eyes assessed me quietly, checking for damage. He smelled like rain, fresh. It must have been raining outside the forest. "Did you get caught in the rain?", I whispered. It bothered me that he would be slow enough to let it touch him. His smile revealed gleaming points against tanned skin.
"I like the feel of running through the rain, Mel. It is one of my joys.", he smirked. "Am I one of your joys, Vince?", I asked with an air of stubborness. Just like me to bring something like that up during such an important mission. I looked away so he couldn't read my face. I couldn't take any more pain right now.
Vince touched my hand. When I didn't turn to look into his deep eyes, he pulled me against him. His action seemed to suprse the both of us, since he exhaled as I gasped. He just nodded to answer my question.
I don't know how long we crouched like that, with me in his arms and him holding me like he was trying to hold onto a fleeting memory. I hoped I would never become so. Vince and I both jumped as we heard the approach of the others. Neither of us spoke.

the rantings of the unsatiable

If every single drop of rain that fell on your face could bring me closer to your happiness and my salvation, this world would not be the dark torment that it is. If every time i saw you smile and it illuminated the world, there would be no darkness. If every sentence i wrote for you could bring you closer to me, if everything i tried so hard to do for you could make you understand me more, if you could see me beneath the unhidden shadows and unveiled pain, this world would give me its meaning. i would find my purpose in life, in my existence.
