--So I had to write my own version of a well known fairy tale for English class. @@ I am tired! I just posted it because I want everyone else to see it.--
Cinderella frowned as she was for what seemed like the millionth time drowned in her sisters' clothes.
"You'd think that any self-respecting older sister in the village would at least give their younger sister a hand-me down- but no, not me! Half of these clothes they can't even fit!" Cinderella whispered to herself as she hopelessly tried to push her way out. "I mean, what's so special about the ball, anyway?"
With a sigh of relief Cinderella finally made a path through which she could walk without fear of tripping. This was one of the many times that her two step-sisters and her step mother went to a glorious party and left her to clean up their messes. It seemed to her that both her sisters and her step-mother were foolish. They would get all dressed up and spend hours upon hours of worrying if a particular outfit made them look too fat or too skinny. She could partially understand her sisters' obsession with the prince. They were in fact teenagers and what girl in the village didn't like him? Her step-mother was a different story though. The only reason why she worried about her appearance was because she wanted the king to notice her; as if he didn't already have a wife!
Cinderella, although she felt this strongly, wouldn't dare say this to their faces. She was already treated bad enough; she was yelled at, scolded for the slightest imperfection on the tiniest glass, and insulted on a regular basis. Her father wasn't there to protect her or even witness how they treated her and although he sent a letter every month, she never got to read it.
"Finally finished," Cinderella wheezed as she placed her hands on her hips and looked around the room with pride. "Now to move on to the rest of the house."
So Cinderella went on to finish cleaning the rest of the house, just as she usually did; dusting the shelves, washing the dishes, scrubbing and shining the floor, feeding the horse, airing out the house and much more. As she was finishing the dusting, she felt a small something brush against her leg. She looked down and a grin crept upon her face.
"NANI!" Cinderella screamed as she picked the stray cat up and hugged it.
Her face was beaming with pure joy as she spun around with the cat. This animal was the only thing that she felt like she could trust.
"How are you Nani? Are you eating well?" Cinderella said.
The orange tabby responded with two "meows" which meant to Cinderella that she was hungry. She quickly ran to the kitchen and took out a small piece of chicken from the previous night's dinner.
"There, there. Go ahead and eat." she said, smiling and rubbing the cat's back with motherly hands.
After the cat finished, it patted Cinderella with its paw and ran to the door while Cinderella followed closely behind.
-----------------------
"Oh wow.............is that for ME?!" Cinderella gasped, her hands covering her mouth in disbelief.
The cat only meowed once more and jumped into the pumpkin carriage (which was quite wonderfully designed). Cinderella, still in disbelief stood in awe.
"Well are you going to come or not?" a voice from behind her said- obviously irritated.
Cinderella spun around and almost fainted when she saw a giant, smartly dressed rat looking at her.
"Uh........uhm..........s-sure."
Cinderella, quite amazed, stepped into the carriage. She grimaced when she felt her foot sink into a slimy-like substance. She looked down and saw she stepped in pumpkin pulp.
"I'm very sorry miss. Let me clean that up for you." another calmer rat said.
Cinderella just nodded- too astonished to answer. After the rat finished she sat down on the nearest chair next to her cat.
"What is all this Nani?"
The cat only meowed and lifted its paw again. Cinderella turned around and to her surprise it was her grandmother!
"GRANDMA?! What are you doing here? You're supposed to be on vacation!"
"Bah, forget vacation. That place is too expensive anyhow. You know that they charge $750 just for a dress? That's outrageous! Any-who........I've come to help you prepare for your appearance at the grand ball. I hear the prince will be there." Her grandmother said the last line with a sly wink.
"Wait! What are you doing here in the first place and how'd you know about this? And, besides, that stupid ball is for idiots. You know the only reason they're having that dumb ball is because the prince got an A on a math test. Anyone could do that! Seriously, they have a ball for every little thing that he does! 'The prince has cleaned his room! Why don't we have a ball to celebrate this wonderful achievement?'" Cinderella said sarcastically.
"That is true but he is handsome and he is a prince. I tell you, if any girl were to be fortunate enough to marry him, she'd be set for life. Enough of that though; let's make you a princess!!!!"
With this last sentence she hopped up and started taking Cinderella's long, black silky hair out if its terrible ponytail and carefully began to weave it into a beautiful French braid.
"I don't even want to go to the ball! Don't I have I say in this?!" whined Cinderella.
"No, you do not have a say in this and stop all that whining. You know you really should take better care of yourself. Do you realize that your hair is so long and thick and that it is darker than ebony? Do you realize that your skin is like bronzed copper? I wonder what you do in that house all day. Here, take this."
Cinderella's grandmother pulled out gorgeous dress of many shades of purple. Cinderella glanced at it, did a double take, and then let out a long squeal.
"This is so beautiful! Where in the world did you get it?!"
"It was on sale at 50% off. You can't beat that. Hurry and get it on, the ball is going to end at twelve and it's...........10:45 now."
Cinderella hurriedly put on the dress and as a group they went on their way to the palace.
"It's so beautiful!" Cinderella exclaimed as they pulled out front.
Cinderella rushed to open the door when she noticed her shoes. Seeing the disappointed look on the girl's face, Cinderella's grandmother remembered something important.
"Ah yes, I almost forgot," she said as she shuffled through her bag. "Where is it...........come on.........where- here they are!" she said as she pulled out a dazzling pair of slippers. "These are for you."
With another squeal Cinderella took them, slipped them on and walked into the palace.
-------------------------------
The lights danced across her head as she hesitantly walked into the nearest corner of the room. She hugged the wall, trying to stay as much into the dark as possible, hoping that no one (especially her sisters) would notice her.
"Okay, you can do this Ella. All you need to do is stay behind the scenes and no one will-" She jumped a mile when she felt a light tap on her shoulder. Thoughts swam around her head as she stood stock still. Did her sisters find her out? Was it her step-mother telling her to go home? Was it all a dream?
"May I have honor of dancing with you, madame??" a voice said from behind her.
"The prince!" Cinderella said to herself. "Okay, be cool.......be cool."
With a deep breath Cinderella turned and faced the prince.
"It would be my pleasure, sir!"
With a smile, the prince took her hand and led her to the dance floor. So she and the prince danced the night away- until 12:01.
She didn't notice it at first; that is, before she heard the sound of the twelve o'clock bell toll.
"Darn it," she thought as she slowed "my sisters are on their way home now!"
"I've got to go, sir!" she said as she rushed to the door.
The prince just shrugged and made his way upstairs; leaving Cinderella behind. With a sigh, Cinderella slowly made her way down the stairs and towards the pumpkin carriage. She did not bother to notice the few sticks and stones that were scattered in front of her. That was when she fell.
She went down screaming and with her hands flailing in the empty space around her. She braced herself for the stone ground that was rushing towards her felt a soft, fleece like material underneath her.
"Oi,"she said as she lay there in unbelief. "What happened?"
"You sure are clumsy. Be more careful next time. You ruined my favorite jacket!"
Cinderella looked up to see the irritated rat staring down at her. She quickly got up when she noticed the annoyed look in the rat's beady eyes.
"I-I'm sorry. Here, you can have it back," Cinderella said as she picked up the jacket.
"No, it's too late now. You might as well keep it," the rat said as he walked over to the stairs behind Cinderella, bent down and picked up a
slipper. "Seems as if you lost your shoe."
"Well aren't you going to give it to me?" Cinderella asked.
"No. It's mine, after all."
"Yours?! What does a rat need with a slipper?"
"See, that's where you're wrong. Denia, may I?"
Cinderella looked first at the rat and then at the carriage. She was surprised to see her grandmother ease her out.
"Yes you can, Roy. And that is Miss Denia to you."
"Whatever." the rat said as he slipped the slipper into his mouth.
"That's so gross!" Cinderella exclaimed.
"Believe me, it doesn't taste wonderful either." the rat said.
Cinderella stared for a while in disbelief when she started noticing something changing in the rat's appearance. Its fur was starting to fade and quite surprisingly, was starting to have more human-like features. Then, right before her eyes it turned into a boy!
"Ugh, I always hate doing that. Well Cinderella.........are you surprised?
"Yes, I am surprised. Very much so. "Cinderella stared in disbelief. The rat had turned into someone with beautiful ginger hair, piercing brown eyes and striking features!
"Well you can stop staring now. It's very annoying. Now," Roy (the rat that had turned into a boy) took Cinderella's hand and led her to the carriage. "Let's get you home."
And Cinderella and Roy lived happily ever after.
