Well, if you haven't seen this movie, first I'm going to highly recomended it to you. Not that I'm insisting you join a religion or be all peppy, going around hugging gangster kids. Just that it gives you thing to think about. Second, I'm going to summarize it:
The movie "To Save A Life" could be considered "religious". Really, all it is, is a story of high school life. When your eyes open up, and you start to actually notice things around you, your whole world changes. Sometimes for good, sometimes for bad. It just happens that the main character went to religion for help. If you really think about it though, he actually turned to the support of real friends. After his friend, who he had known since he was little, but whom he started ignoring in high school committed suicide, his whole life changed. Basically, the whole movie was about saving lives and friendships.
If you've seen it, and if you've really deeply thought about it, you know how life changing it is. Whether you've seen the movie or not, there is a point, where the main character starts using his old friends facebook page to reach out to cutters and people considering suicide and help them get their lives back. That's what I am proposing to do.
As some of you know, I have a backup account called Zoeys Creatures. There, I am going to make a world just for this purpose. For people to post about real problems, real loneliness, real pain. Even I have things that I have kept inside. Even though I act like I'm over it, I'm truely not over it. Bullying, deaths of friends, constant pressure from parents, drugs, cutting... I've seen all of that. I want to make a world to reach out to those people who have been there. I'm not going to ask you to spill your guts out to people you don't know on the Internet. But it will be a place to reach out to others for support. Maybe simply ask for someone who's been in your spot. From getting over a tight relationship to thoughts of suicide, sometimes it's just that one person that you need to recognize you. Someone to know you exist! Someone who really cares!
Okay, so maybe I'm not asking you to hug a gangster. But here is what I am going to ask: Next time you go to school, or work, or just out in the world, look for that loner. Look out for those people that feel on the edge of defeat. Look for those people that are nearly ready to do anything to get people to know they exist! ... And simply recognize them. Ask them to sit with you, or give them your latest art club craft, or give them that extra sweet you were saving for after lunch. What if that simple act helped to save someone's life? What if a little stick of gum could bring someone out of depression to a world where good people do exist?!
Just think about it. Consider it. What can you do today that will change someone's life tomorrow?
