Deja Vu

‡ Fox ‡

I leaned back in my chair and propped my feet up on the desk in front of me. It was so boring to have to stay indoors all day when outside I could be playing sports instead. Unfortunately I didn't have the audacity Jett did to ditch class everyday. Heh, maybe I should get advice from him.

The upside to staying in class was checking out the girl Digits. There was Ayre, the second Digit, who was probably the hottest girl on campus. I'd give her a 1 on that scale, but that's just me. Eternity was beautiful in her own way, but completely brainless. Well, that wasn't really a problem from my point of view. Saracen was definitely pretty, with her platinum blonde hair and bright blue eyes, but she was so sweet it was annoying at times. Juliet, the sixth Digit, scared the crap out of me. She was always staring at us Digits like we were some test subjects or something. I made sure to stay away from her. Racquel was a beauty as well, but she never looked anywhere other than her mirror. Jett was spared a few glances, the lucky bastard, but I wasn't sure she even knew I existed.

As for the boys, there was Jett, Greyson, Fhyre, Rhys and I. I hardly talked to Greyson or Jett. Rhys was fun to tease since he was the youngest and weakest of the Digits. One could feel bad for him, but didn't. Fhyre was just plain annoying. He was always playing freaking pranks on me. I had to become his friend or his main target. Guess which option I chose? As for that number one Digit Jett, he's too stuck up for his own good. Never comes to class, thinks he's better than everyone just 'cause he's the strongest. Tch. Someone needs to teach that boy a lesson.

Turning my attention from the guys back to the girls, I stared at Ayre. She was so cheerful all the time, it was hard to believe. Tears stained her face suddenly and I felt myself worrying. What had happened? Eternity went to ask her something, causing Ayre to perk up considerably. Always caring for others, that girl did.

Lost in my own thoughts-now that was a first-, I didn't even listen to what the teacher was saying at the head of the classroom. When the lessons ended everyone filed out of the room. When I heard Mrs. Hayman call after Eternity, I morphed into a fox, my signature shapeshifter form, and crouched in the corner.

Juliet passed by me and I froze when I saw her glance at my figure. After she left I breathed a sigh of relief. Mrs. Hayman was telling Eternity she couldn't play with time and blah blah blah. It was my time to step in. If I saved Eternity, maybe she would tell me why Ayre had been crying.

"Is what Miss Eternity is doing a problem for you, sensei?" I asked, morphing into the teacher herself.

"Who are you?" Eternity inquired, confusion clouding her face. I chuckled inwardly. She was definitely brainless.

"Eternity, clueless-and beautiful- as always," I smirked, turning into a mirror image of her.

"Two me's?! What's going on?!" She stumbled backwards and tripped over a desk leg, causing her to groan in pain. "Ouch..."

I couldn't stop the laugh that escaped my lips and decided to turn back into myself. Ah, it was definitely fun messing with Eternity.

"F-Fox?! Oh yeah, you're a shapeshifter!" She blushed, which made me laugh even more. She was certainly cute, I had to say that.

I grabbed Eternity's hand to help her up and turned to the teacher once again. "So, Mrs. Hayman, what was it you needed from Eternity?"

"No, no, no! I-It's alright! Continue as you were!" she stuttered frantically, ushering us towards the door. "Have a good day!"

The two of us were pushed out into the hallway. It was empty of all the other students. Suddenly, Eternity burst out laughing. She was so cute when she did so I began laughing as well.

"Thank you for... That." She said finally.

"It was no problem. After all, saving damsels in distress is my pleasure," I bowed with a flourish and kissed her hand, winking as I stood up straight.

When she didn't say anything, I figured this was my opportunity.

"Eternity, I have a question." I stated.

"Y-Yes?"

"Why was Ayre crying?"

"It was her allergies. You know how it can get sometimes in this military base!" she exclaimed instantly. Allergies? No one cries because of allergies... Did Eternity seriously believe that was what had went wrong?

"Thank you for... That." Eternity said as we stumbled out of the classroom. Woah, deja vu. I feel like this has happened before...

"It was no problem. After all, saving damsels in distress is my pleasure." I bent down to kiss Eternity's hand, but she danced away from me, a playful smirk on her lips.

"I am sorry, Mr. Fox, but I have some very very important business to attend to!" She winked and walked back down the hallway. Wait. How was I supposed to ask her what happened to Ayre now?!

"Wait! Eternity, I have a-" I called as she dashed down the hallway. Well, if you can't beat them, join 'em.

"I won't let you go that easily!" I ran down the hallway after her and towards to dorm room. Where exactly was she going?
