After Eternity returned with Rhys and we had him all tied up nice and tight, I gathered those we still had in our wake around me. It was time to lay out the plan. After thinking it through for a few hours, every single detail was planned out in my mind. It would've helped if I had received a vision or something to assist me, but no, my dang power was completely useless when I actually needed it. Oh well.
I had instructed Eternity to go out and retrieve Rhys or anyone else from the group; preferably the tenth Digit since he was the weakest. Miraculously, she came back unscathed. I was worried in what way she could've messed that mission up.
Fox had then been ordered to take the nerdy boy's place. I wondered what Greyson was going to think if he ever picked up on the seventh digit's thoughts... Well, it was just a test operation, so if he ended up getting caught in the act, he'd be ready to evacuate. At least, I hoped he would...
Rhys sighed as he gave up on all hopes of escape. I actually felt a little bad for the guy. I mean, he was always teased and stuff, and now he was tied to a tree. His leg looked pretty messed up too. But, that's what you get for joining the dark side... Yeah, who's getting cookies now, punk! Just kidding...
"Alright, we know the basic outline of Jett's plan, and I have completed the counterattack." Then, I explained to Eternity, Fhyre, and Juliet in hushed tones the rest of the plan. Juliet nodded occasionally, Eternity attempted to concentrate on what I was saying, and Fhyre looked plain bored. If they messed up, they were going to be in some serious trouble.
The counterattack went a little like this. First, we were going to get to Washington DC, where Jett's plan was most likely going to take place. I mean, it was freakin' government central, how could it not be there? Anyways, we would wait in the immediate vicinity for Jett and his followers to disable the weapons. Then, my group would infiltrate the arsenal and reactivate the weapons so that they functioned properly. But just a few for our use, and a little left over. Didn't need the humans to go on a killing spree or whatever they did with their little machines of mass destruction... After that, Eternity would smuggle me, Fhyre, and Juliet into the international president's meeting using her time warping, and we would wait for Jett's attack to begin. As soon as that happened, each of my team was supposed to take out a member of the opposite team. Hopefully we would be able to do this successfully.
The plan was sketchy at the moment, but it was all I could do with such little information. If only Jett had thought his plan through a little more before I had sent Fox over to get some information. I was making Fox do so much, I felt sympathetic towards him as well. The others didn't really do much, especially Juliet, but I was considering her the brains of our group. If a part of our counterattack was insufficient, she'd be sure to inform me.
"Your plan is flawed," the green-haired girl stated, right on cue.
I nodded solemnly. "It's unfortunate, but it's true. It had a ton of holes in it, but we're going to have to work through them and hope luck is on our side."
"And if it is not?" Juliet shot back, in her usual monotonous voice.
"It'll work out, I'm sure of it!" Eternity exclaimed cheerfully.
"If you have any suggestions for adjustments, please let me know," I said, turning towards the sixth Digit. She was going to be extremely useful as an advisor during this Digit battle. I wasn't even sure what I was fighting for, or why, but my instinct told me that I was doing the right thing. If only Jett had a conscience, and I'd have a mended heart.
Juliet nodded in response and wandered off in the opposite direction of where Rhys was. He seemed to be fading in and out of consciousness. I decided that I should go check on him. I was on the good side, we were supposed to be overly nice.
"Hey, Rhys, are you alright?" I asked. His eyes snapped open as he heard my voice. Apparently, the noise I had made as I approached wasn't loud enough for him...
"As alright as a person can be for being tied to a tree," Rhys answered, irritated.
I held my hands up in a surrender-like motion, "Kay, sorry, just wanted to check on you. Jeesh."
Without waiting for a reply, I turned on my heel and walked away. My head began to pound, and the world around me pulsed and blurred. Oh, now I was going to get a vision?! What was up with that?!
Sitting on a nearby tree stump, I got as comfortable as I possibly could have just before the vision started. I wasn't even sure of where it began or where it ended. I was just filled with a strong sense of dread as I endured the psychic scene.
Flight 4 dips and weaves through the sky as a strong turbulence rocks the aircraft. Five lone Digits inhabit the plane, with a pilot who is constantly under the illusion of normal working conditions navigating through the fpggy skies. The weather forecast was off--the fatal decision of these five teens' lives. Helpless, the plane plunges into the icy sea, heedless of the terrified screams of its inhabitants. The cold blue moon stares at the scene, as a pool of dark blood floats to the surface of the deep black water. There are no survivors.
I feel a sickening feeling of deja vu as I awaken from my trance only to have tears stream down my face. No, that couldn't happen. Jett... Was going to die? He was going to get on a plane, the plane was going to crash, and he was going to die?! Just like that. That easily, and even the first Digit, the most powerful of ten, could be killed.
No. I was not going to let that happen.
Was it my sense of justice? My conscience, that propelled me towards the notion of warning Jett of the future? Or was it my heart? That solitary organ that seemed to have shattered for reasons I could not voice.
It didn't matter what the hell told me to warn the other's of their fatal ending. I was going to warn Jett. And I was going to do it tonight.
The orange glow of the sun disappeared as the star dipped behind the horizon. The sky was painted an array of warm colors, just before blending into a deep purple streaked with blue. A full moon peeked through the clouds, identical to that which had witnessed five of the world's most powerful adolescents die.
I patiently awaited Eternity, Juliet, Fhyre, and Rhys to fall into a deep sleep before slipping out into the night. Under the shroud of darkness, my journey towards my enemies' camp was peaceful. With the occasional crack of a branch, I was silent and deft as I maneuvered through the constant foliage.
At last, I came upon Jett's camp. I could just see him, the only one still awake, leaning against a tree. He was deep in thought, and even though I didn't want to disturb him, I knew I had to.
Creeping over towards his location, I prepared myself for our first--and probably last--peaceful meeting after deciding to go separate ways. I could only hope this ended well.
