Fhyre lifted me into his arms and sped away without a moment's notice. I had half a mind to break his femur, patella, fibula, and tibia simultaneously, but I doubt Ayre would have been able to handle that split. Literally.
Moments later Fhyre halted just before entering the airport. "D'ya think the security alarms will go off in I run through those little metal detecting thingies?"
I was about to inform him that I did not speak "moron", but instead replied, "No."
Shrugging, Fhyre hefted me over his shoulder, much to my disdain, and continued his trip through the airport. I briefly wondered where we would even locate the tickets for a flight. Ayre's request was ridiculously broad. Did she prefer a private flight, first class, coach?
The second time the ninth Digit ceased running, we were in the terminal, surrounding by humans casting us baffled glances. Obviously, two teens appearing out of thin air was not a usual occurrence in the airport. I narrowed my eyes at the pea-brained boy beside me. The fact that his sense, speed, and strength were heightened did nothing for the useless organ inside of his empty skull.
"Now, where are those tickets..." he muttered, furrowing his brow. Scanning the surrounding area with exceptional visual acuity, he spotted nothing useful in his search.
The space was crowded with dark plastic chairs and weary-eyed citizens of whatever town we had stumbled upon. Half of the terminal's occupants were snoring conspicuously. A small envelope rustling in the air conditioning's overly strong breeze caught my eye just before four tickets tumbled from its manilla pouch.
"Must the tenth Digit accompany us?" I inquired.
"Uh... If you can find a ticket for him. But if not, he's fine where he is now." I could hear the grin in Fhyre's voice and resisted the urge to completely wipe it from his face.
The vouchers floated through the air towards Fhyre and I, courtesy of my telekinesis. Of course, my power could go beyond what the eye could view, but this was all the situation required at the moment. The boy's crimson colored eyes brightened when he spotted the documents.
Seconds later they were in his hand as he rushed over to seize them. "First class? Score! Where'd you find these?"
I pointed in the general direction of the opened envelope, pitying the sleeping human that had just lost their tickets. But the sympathy was fleeting, and soon Fhyre was careening into the clearing Ayre and Eternity were interrogating Rhys in. Luckily, the mission had been concluded quickly. I was no longer forced to be in the ninth Digit's presence.
"Juliet! Fhyre! Did you guys get the tickets?" Ayre called, waving her arms happily when she caught sight of us. One of her arms was pinning Rhys's shoulders to the maple tree he was bound to, as he constantly struggled under her hold.
"Hell yeah! And they're first class, too! Hey, what's this?" Fhyre squinted as he separated two tickets that were attached to each other.
"Another ticket?" Eternity asked, tilting her head.
"Yeah... But this one is in the coach section... Hah! Sorry Rhys!" Fhyre laughed and tossed the thin paper in the direction of the red-haired Digit.
"Well, at least we have a ride, now. When were these tickets due to Washington DC?" Ayre questioned, sauntering over to Fhyre and plucking the slips out of his hands.
"Tomorrow morning. 4:15 A.M. Four first class seats, one coach," I stated quietly. Somehow, the pink-haired leader heard my answer and nodded happily.
"Perfect!" she exclaimed. "This isn't the plane that's crashing tonight." Realizing the sorrowful message her words carried, she lowered her gaze. "If only there was a way to save all those people..."
"If only." My words were carried away in the crisp autumn breeze, flowing with the multi-colored leaves signaling fall. Although summer had reached its closure, the Digit war was just beginning.
And the fate of the human race was forever interwoven with the power's of ten teenagers...
