Day in the Life of an Otaku: An Introduction
About ten years ago, I didn't know what I was getting into. Oh, for the innocent days of just flipping back and forth between Toonami and MTV!
I could say the same thing four years ago when I got to college. Anime Club. Watching my first fansubs. The slow descent into full-fledged otaku-dom.
It's been a huge part of my life since then.
I'm what you could consider to be a normal college senior. Currently, I'm debating about what to do in another month and half, when I'm ripped away from this nice womb of education. I go through the motions, read for classes, take my exams, stay up until two writing whatever bullshit my brain can come up with. (Kids, if you want an easy major, pick English. Can pull whatever out of your ass, just so long as you find a similar argument.)
Anime's become more than a safe haven. This has its ups and downs, as you'll learn.
Now, I don't considered myself hardcore, or a n00b, just somewhere in the middle. 'Course, a majority of my final projects have been written about anime in some form or another- actually just got the go-ahead on the one. However, other people's perceptions of me, well, they see me differently. My family, for one, half of them think I'm nuts.
This is about my life. Me going into zero hour as I'm launched into the real world. Dealing with my club and my similarly obsessed roommates as we cling to our anime and bishies and just telling each other we can make it through this.
My name is Laura, and I am an otaku.
This is how I deal.
