I always laugh when I see someone in chat ask about becoming a moderator as if it was one of the coolest things ever. The reality is that the truth is nothing like that. It’s tedious, boring and many times nothing more than babysitting people who lack common sense. It may be perceived as being prestigious but make no mistake, it’s a job.
Now before we get started, if you haven’t read the site terms recently, do so. The part I’m referring to is at the very end and relates to chat rules. Keep in mind; I’m addressing this to members who have incorrect notions as to what my job here is, not to my friends who already know better.
The relevant paragraph is this one:
Conversations in the chat must always be PG-rated. If you want to discuss mature topics, use the option for private chat or create a password protected room. Anything pornographic in nature is not allowed, even if the room has a password to keep other members out.
If you’ve forgotten what PG rated means, go and look it up. Just as the concept of mature is meant to cover things like discussing an anime like say Black Lagoon. Not for you to get off on tangents of being inappropriate with other members, even in jest. TheOtaku does not cater to any form of cybering, even as a joke so get over it.
I’ve included one of the chats; it’s edited to remove the unrelated conversation though there is still some of that in there. Bottom line, as I said in the conversation, if you’re dumb enough to announce stuff like that in chat… it’s my JOB to bring you up on it. Joking is irrelevant. If you want to joke like that, take it elsewhere.

In closing… if you come in later on the conversation, don’t be an ass and try to backseat mod and use emotive language to defend someone’s behavior. The standard “They do it too” doesn’t cut it. I’m not posting that part, but just because other people do things that indicate they want attention… it doesn’t leave you free of the responsibility of choosing to follow up on it. And don’t expect me to actually tell you who has been dealt with either.
Beth has said this before, but to a certain extent, we are NOT going to tell you everything we do or explain it. If you have legitimate concerns or something you think proves otherwise. Talk to me using private chat or send me a PM, don’t be a jackass and semi start a fight with me in chat. The problem with that is you don’t know the full story.
