Just a quick quip.
I have been here on the Otaku for many many years and I have entered lots of contests. Although this has nothing to do with anyone in particular it was weighing heavy on my mind. Call me cyncial or annoying - whichever but I believe that if you promise something you should always make good on it.
Most of the time contest winners receive art as a prize. I love receing art from other people no matter how crappy it is. I think it is a great expression of recognition when someone takes the time to draw something for someone else. That being said, I believe if a contest owner promises art to the winners of a contest then they should keep that promise and follow through with it.
I am really tired of entering contests and winning only to be let down. This has happened to me on several occasions. I get my hopes up because I will receive a message saying "Im going to draw your prize - tell me what you want". Then months go by and I'm thinking "what is going on with this? am I ever going to get it?" Then I notice they have submitted other work or started new contests and it feels like they have completely forgotten about me.
Then comes of the process of me being a jerk and messaging them and asking "um... did you forget about me?" and receiving no response or a response saying they'll get to it and then they never do.
Its so aggravating and frustrating. I dont mind entering contests even if there are no prizes. Thats not why I enter. But I hate when I enter a contest that uses "fake" prizes to gain more applicants.
Maybe its just me but if I enter something and win I expect to get the prize listed - whether it be art or just the notoriety.
I know this was something completely random but it had been weighing on my mind recently since Ive submitted work for several art contests. I just hope I dont hit a repeat like I did in 2007.
