This Senior Otaku has been part of The O since 2005, and has amazed us with her art and fan comics. The Otaku Studio is proud to present Shortcake-Middy.
Baka Crow: Welcome to the Otaku Studio. Just to start off, I love your username. I know Middy comes from your name Melissa, but where did short cake come from?
Shortcake-Middy: Thank you,the name goes way back to my good old middle/high school days. I am slightly vertically challenged, but at the time stood at 5 feet. I had a boyfriend that was already over 6 feet and people rubbed it in on how unusually short I was compared to him. He always came back with 'yes but she's my shortcake'. It just stayed wth me after that, it's nice to have a memory stay with you for so long.
BC: Even through your my second interview, your are actually the only one so far that going into the field of graphic design. Is it fun and what do you hope to accomplish?
SM: I enjoy my major a lot, though it is a very opinion based field. There is a chance you can do bad on a project if the professor just doen't like your work.I'm really into children' books and character design. My dream job would be to design characters for an animation studio with writing and illustrating my own stories on the side.
BC: Can you tell us a little about your personality?
SM: I like to think I'm well rounded, though I probably tend to come off as childish. My roommates call me the 'puppy' of the group. I am very easily amused, not very 'book' smart and more on the happy go lucky side of the spectrum. I have a harder time being outgoing and making friends, I tend to stick with the same group meeting one or two new people a year. I do have my dark moments, I love twisted films like 'Sleepy Hallow' 'Dracula' 'Ginger Snaps' and anything really with a werewolf.
BC: When did you realized you liked anime? Can you remember what the anime was?
SM: Ok, I'm going to sound so old to all those 'Bleach' lovers out there. My Dad grew up on 'Speed Racer' so of course that was a show I watched. We both own a copy of the new live action film. The first shows that continued my anime ways were 'Card Captor Sakura' 'Pokemon' and 'Sailor Moon'. Sailor moon actually helped me get friends at a new school so a bonus. I also was a big fan of 'Inu-yasha' long before Cartoon Network got its hands on it.
BC: Of course we have to know your favorite animes right now?
SM: I'm a sucker for those really pretty animated and emotional based animes. Still a big fan of 'Card Captor Sakura'. Others are 'Tsubasa Chronicles' 'Loveless' 'Wolf's Rain' 'Full Metal Alchemist' 'Mermaid Forest'. HUGE FAN of 'Fruits Basket'and 'D*N*Angel' the manga is so much better though for these two.
