Trunks and Mia?

In the recent DBZ movie it shows a some interesting connection between a young Mai and Trunks, but in GT frist episode Mia was really old... Anyone know what happened? Mia and trunks would have been an interesting story, but I know people are really pushing for Pan and Trunks to be together. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
