Part IV: Sentence Enders ね and よ + From X to Y: X から Y まで
IV-A: Sentence Enders ね and よ
The sentence enders ね and よ are something that most anime fans will hear at least five times in your typical episode. They're very commonplace. We have already gone over the fact that よ is essentially used as an exclamation point, so it's easy to assume that よ is used for emphasis.
Ex. きょうはとてもさむいですよ。
(Kyou wa totemo samui desu yo.)
It's really cold today!
ね, on the other hand, is a sentence ender that is mostly used to confirm.
Ex. さむいですね。
(Samui desu ne.)
It's cold, right/isn't it?
Very simple stuff.
IV-B: From X to Y: X から Y まで
から and まで are particles that are used together (in this respect) to denote the starting and ending point of something. In other words, they express range. However, they are very flexible and can be used in many respects, including but not limited to: location, age, pages and time.
Ex. 三十四ページから五十五ページまで
(Sanjyuuyon peeji kara gojyuugo peeji made)
From Page 34 to Page 55
奈良から京都まで
(Nara kara Kyouto made)
From Nara to Kyoto
And so on. から and まで are also used in different ways separately, which we will cover in later lessons.
