No Longer Alone

Escape was evident, but suddenly, a black cat leapt in front of my path. I knew right away what it was. My trained eyes found the tattoo that gave it away. I smiled, continueing with the charade- for now, and picked it up her up.

"Meow," the creature cooed innocently as she licked her lips. I could see what was running through her eyes. She wanted to eat me.

"Nice try, Shapeshifter..." I picked up her paw, the fur moved slightly. It showed the right half of the broken heart- the tattoo that had given her away. The little game I was playing was over. She would have to be disposed of immediately.

"Shoot..." she jumped out of my hands, which I had begun to squeeze. "You better be careful..."

I started reaching into my sleeve for the the dagger I was never without. This would be simple enough, an easy task to say the least.

The cat morphed back into a person. Whether it was her real form I knew not, nor did I care one way or the other. The forms were all the same to me. "Aww... No more pretty kitty?" I smiled, pointing the dagger towards her.

I slashed out, catching her forearm, ripping the sleeve of her shirt. She had moved out of harm, so no blood was actually spilt. Curses. I could hear the shouts of some people. They had seen her morph, and because I had been talking to her, I was now associated as a shifter too.

"This is your fault!" I hissed at her as I turned my attention on the towns people. Though, I would not turn my back on her. She was dangerous as well, and I would also deal with her.

Many of the men and shotguns. They aimed and started firing. I dodged them all very easily and morphed into the vampire I had used from before and moved as fast as the speed of light. I was behind one man with the gun and pierced his back with my bare hands. Ripping out his heart from behind.

Throwing the body to the side, I quickly changed into another vampire, this one was able to use blood as a kind of whip. I sliced three men's throat with the whip and turned my attention on the one remaining man. Everyone started scattering, running back to the safety of their homes. Though, they were never safe from me, no matter where they went.

I morphed into a Level E vampire, and was prepared to rip out his throat. But, a young woman, the man's wife, rushed in front of him. "Please, please spare him! He only meant to protect us!" she cried, her eyes full of tears.

I had no qualms about killing a woman. Whoever was brave enough to challenge me knew the consequences. They knew they were going to die. I grabbed the girl's neck and held her off the ground. She clutched at my hand. The man was on his knees before me, begging me for mercy.

Suddenly, I felt an hand on my arm. Turning, it was the shapeshifter from before. I had almost forgotten about her in my frenzy. Her eyes. They reminded me of someone from my past. Someone whom I had become close to. Someone I had trusted. She looked at me with eyes that told me I was becoming a monster. I looked at the young woman, who loved her husband so much she was willing to stand up to me. To ME!

I threw her into the husband's arms. He thanked me as I walked away. I morphed again. The only reason I had stopped was because it was unnecessary to kill the couple. I had not stopped because the shifter had talked me into it. No, I was not that weak to take orders from someone else.

Flashes of my past burned in my mind. What was so special about this shifter that she reminded me of the one I used to know? I shook my head. No. These memories would have to be suppressed yet again. I couldn't think about then. That life was over.
