Ok so i haven't edited this either *smacks self* but so many people are waiting for me to get on with the next chapter that i had to get this out of the way.
Also i've contradicted winx, which you'll get when you read her characters bio and the description of Blaze's dad. I'm Really sorry about this T_T and i should have added it in my bio. But i've already planned so much that hinges on her father that i can't get rid of it now, however i am VERY willing to compromise (i'm thinking two realms, but that's just me) so any suggestions are welcome.
I'll try and get onto the next chapter tonight or tommorow.
Please comment if you read this and let me know what you think of everything and if you have any idea's about what should happen later. Also please tell me what you think of Cole and Zee Zee and who your fave of my characters is so far.
Sorry it's so long ^-^ Hope you like it
The ceromony:
The ceremony was set for midnight, a mere two hours away and Blaze stood in front of her wardrobe with absolutely no idea what to wear. Originally she had planned to go in her usual jeans and t-shirt but Zee’s objection had been something to be reckoned with. So here she was, staring into her wardrobe with a clueless expression on her face.
“Your sure I can’t wear my normal clothes?” She asked Zee Zee.
Zee Zee glared at her. “This is the last time you will be mistress of the coven, and god help me you will look good!”
“But I don’t have anything that looks ‘good’” Blaze protested.
“I know mistress.” Zee Zee smirked. “That’s why I ordered you this.” She flew over to an old chest in the corner and gestured for Blaze to open it.
Rolling her eyes Blaze shut her wardrobe and opened the chest in question. Inside was a pile of red satin which grabbed and pulled out.
When she got it out of the dark of the chest she could see that it was actually an immaculate red ball gown. It was also one of the fanciest things she had ever seen. She turned to Zee Zee. “I’m not wearing it.”
The smirk left Zee Zee’s face. “What do you mean ‘your not wearing it’ mistress?”
“I mean that there is no way in hell that I am going in front of the whole coven wearing that. I’ll look like a wannabe prom queen.”
“You will do as I say mistress.” Zee Zee demanded. Causing Blaze to scowl. “I’m stuck with you after you leave and I refuse to let your record be tarnished by coming to the ceremony dressed like a commoner.”
Blaze sighed, it was obvious that Zee Zee was adamant about this and she knew from experience that arguing would be futile. “Fine I’ll try on the stupid dress, but if I look ridiculous then I’m not wearing it!” She stomped into the bathroom, and shut the door before Zee Zee could follow.
“stupid sprite.” she mumbled to herself. “who does she think she is, ordering me around.” But despite her mock anger, she got undressed and slipped the gown over her head. Turning to look in the mirror, she let out a gasp. She looked amazing. The dress clung to her in all the right places and the shade exactly matched the colour of her eyes. “Ok, maybe not so stupid after all .”
She opened her mouth to admit Zee Zee’s superior fashion sense and thank her. But she decided to have some fun first.
“It looks horrible Zee. I absolutely refuse to wear it.”
“Let me in mistress, I’m sure it looks fine.” Blaze could hear the distress in Zee Zee’s voice and stifled a laugh.
“Nope it looks terrible. I refuse to let you see me like this.”
“Mistress please let me in.”
“No.”
“I could always burn the door down.”
“And I could always burn this dress.”
“Mistress you are completely incorrigible. Let me in!” The sprite sounded truly angry and Blaze decided she’d suffered enough.
“Ok, then.” She said swinging the door open. “How do I look?” She said smiling innocently.
Zee Zee sighed. “I wish you wouldn’t do that mistress, it’s so irritating.”
Blaze ignored her and repeated her previous question. “how do I look?”
“You look beautiful mistress, I knew it would suit you.”
Blaze spun in front of the mirror again. “I guess it looks alright.” She smiled and made a mock bow. “thank you Zee, I bow to a skill far greater than my own.”
Zee Zee grinned “Anything for you mistress. Now hurry up and do your make up, the ceremony will start in just over an hour.”
“Sure Zee. Can you go see how Cole is doing?” Blaze would have gone herself, but the rules of the ceremony forbade it.
“Sure thing mistress. I’ll see you at the ceremony.” She flew out the open bedroom door and down the hall.
Blaze sighed, as much as she was looking forward to leaving, she knew she would miss the coven, it had been her home for too long for her not to.
It took her little more than ten minutes to put her makeup on and by the time she was finished and feeling quite happy. It had been years since she had had a reason to dress up. She spent another half hour packing her things and getting ready to leave, which she was planning to do as soon as the ceremony was over.
It took a while for her to decide what to take and what to leave behind. The first thing she packed were the basics; clothes, toiletries, a few bottles of blood. The next few things were a lot harder to decide on.
She went through all the cupboards and draws in her room and made a pile on her bed. The first thing she packed was her photo album and camera, these were some of her most prized possessions as they finally allowed her to capture the moments in time that had, until recently, passed her by. The next thing she selected was the ruby covered journal Cole had brought her the year before last, she hadn’t used it much, but it was too beautiful to leave behind. She packed a few more trinkets that she had gathered over the years, most of them things that would prove helpful on her travels.
The last thing she pulled out of the pile was a small black pouch. The only thing she had brought with her from the demon realm, all those years ago. She tipped and watch as the fire stone necklace spilled into her hand. The chain was made of solid gold and attached to it was a small cage. In the cage was what looked like a glowing coal.
The coal was a fire stone, one of the rarest jewels in existence, even in the demon real where it originated from. It been a gift from her father, given to her the day before she ran away. She looked thoughtfully at it for a few moments before placing it around her neck.
The touch brought back shattered memories of the day she had been given it. It had been her fiftieth birthday, though she looked no older than sixteen. Her father had given her the necklace in the morning. A sign that he viewed her as worthy to take over from him, not that there had ever been in question. She had always had a close relationship with her father but she couldn’t stand the thought of taking over, after all, her father was Lucifer the leader of the whole light realm.
Unlike the myths however, he was not evil incarnate. He didn’t torture souls, in fact the rules he put in place for behaviour like that were quite severe . But that didn’t stop the few unfortunate humans who found there way into the realm and out again, telling tales of a world full of fire. However that didn’t mean that there tales were entirely false. The dark realm was evil and did torture human souls, but it’s leader was Merikh
, not Lucifer.
Blaze had loved her father dearly. But there was one thing she couldn’t stand. Everyone constantly calling her ‘the kings daughter’ or ‘lucifers daughter’. She was never just called Blaze and her whole identity seemed to hinge on her father’s. And even if she became queen she knew she would forever be compared to her father, so she ran away.
Her father had found her again with relative ease and tried to convince her to come back. She had flatly refused. For the next few years her father had continued to try to get her to come back, but after awhile he gave up. Blaze still saw him occasionally and these meetings still brought her joy, but she knew she would never go back. And she hated the fact that she was letting her father down.
She gazed down at the fire stone necklace and sighed it was the mark of who she truly was and she had not worn it since before she joined the coven.
“Time to get going” she finally mumbled to herself as she shoved her discarded belongings back into their various places.
Taking one last look at the room that had been her life for the last twenty years, she turned and walked out. Shutting the door behind her and dumping her bag in the hall to collect later.
When she entered the ceremony chamber, she was meet with the faces of the coven, hundreds of vampires, that at the moment, were all bound to her. She lifted her head a smiled. This is the last time I’ll ever have to do this, she thought, goodbye and good riddance.
Large sheets of gold and red cloth covered the walls, blocking the dull water stained stone that had been there before she became mistress. I wonder if Cole will change them, she wondered, or if he’ll keep them in my memory, he can be so sentimental sometimes. She gazed around at the faces looking up at them, feeling their emotions echoing in the back of her head. Some were happy, some sad and a lot of them angry at the lack of notice.
Finally she turned to look at the stage. It was round, about a metre high and placed in the middle of the room. Two chairs had been placed on the centre of the stage, one for her and one for Cole, someone had even painted them red and black. A symbol of the changing of power.
She walked through the room and took her seat, using all the grace she could muster, which was a considerable amount. Blaze waited impatiently for Cole, wanting to get the ceremony over and done with.
When he finally entered the room Blaze grinned. Cole was dressed in an immaculate tailored suit and she could see by the obvious discomfort and Zee Zee’s smug grin, that he probably had as little to do with his outfit as she did with hers.
‘Smile.’ She said, using their mind link. ‘You’ll look like an idiot otherwise.’
‘Gee thanks.’ He replied sarcastically, pasting a false smile on his face.
She smiled as she watched him walk across the room, now that he had gotten over his discomfort, he looked the perfect part for the new master. His black suit and silver eyes gave him a sinister appearance, but Blaze could still see the sparkle of life in his eyes. He caught her gaze and smiled back.
When he was seated it was time for the ceremony to begin. Blaze got to her and spun so she could look out across the gathering, for what would probably be the last time. “Ladies and gentlemen.” She said her voice was soft, but somehow it managed to reach across the whole room. “You are here today to witness my resignation as mistress of this coven and to recognise Cole as your new master.” There was a rustle of noise through the crowd at this announcement, and the emotions in her head became more confusing.
She waited until the crowd was silent before continuing. “As you are well aware, I have been mistress here for the last twenty years. And they have been some of the best and worst years in my life.”
She continued on in this way for over half an hour, slowly charming the coven around to her way of thinking. Finally she made a sharp gesture, signalling the end of her speech and the start of the actual ceremony.
Two of the younger vampires came forward, one carrying two crystal glasses, and the other a small table. They placed the table in the centre of the table, with the two glasses on top, glinting in the fire light.
Blaze laughed as she pulled a sharp silver blade from where it had been concealed in her sleave. ‘Finally this is almost over.’ she mind linked to Cole.
‘Finally.’ He agreed and rose from his seat.
They both stepped up to the table, and Cole stuck his arm out without being asked. ‘I hope this works.’ He linked to Blaze. ‘Traditionally the blood is supposed to be exchanged via bite.’
Blaze took his hand and drew her blade swiftly across his wrist, capturing the blood that flowed from the wound, in one of the crystal glasses. ‘You know how much I hate bitting people. I just seems so distasteful.’
She brought the glass to her nose and inhaled. No two vampires blood smelled alike, and none had the distinctive copper smell of human blood. Cole’s blood smelt of rain on cracked desert sand.
“Servant to Mistress, I give freely my blood to you.” Cole said the ritual words aloud, and the room fell deadly silent.
“Mistress to Master, I accept your gift.”
Blaze touched the rim of the glass to her lips and, after a short mental countdown, downed the whole glassful. It felt like she was swallowing fire and she tried to keep her pained expression off her face as the last few drops went down her throat.
Blaze hadn’t tasted vampire blood since the day after she had become mistress, when she had had to bind the coven to her. Not only was vampire blood powerful, but it was addictive, and those who drunk too much of it were slowly driven insane. It also provided a median that allowed a vampires power to be lent to another.
Placing the glass down sharply, Blaze held her own wrist above the unused glass and drew her bade across.
“Mistress to Master, I give freely my blood to you.” She gave the glass to Cole.
“Master to servant, I accept your gift.” Cole put the glass to his lips and tipped the glass.
As soon as the blood hit his tongue, Blaze felt her bonds with the cover break. All except her bonds with Cole. What the..? She thought.
Cole swallowed and placed the glass down, his eyes gleaming.
‘Why the hell am I still mind linked to you?!’ Blaze yelled using the linkage in question.
‘I didn’t want to give it up, and unlike our previous Master, I am strong enough to keep it.’
‘Why didn’t you tell me though?’ Blaze relied, slightly hurt, she didn’t like her friends keeping things from her.
‘I knew you would have said no, and I couldn’t bare to lose you completely.’ Cole said.
‘I wouldn’t have said no.’ she replied, ‘I’m going to miss you to and at least this will allow me to contact you whenever I want.’
Cole looked at her and smiled, before turning to the members of the coven which were coming forward to show their respect.
Blaze smiled back and reclined in her chair to wait for everyone to leave. It was a longer wait than she had expected.
After half an hour of vampires wishing Cole well, Blaze was well and truly bored. She tapped her foot impatiently and looked for Zee Zee, but she had left shortly after the ceremony and Blaze hadn’t seen her since. She considered leaving, but it would be considered rude and she still wanted to say goodbye to Cole.
‘Will you hurry up!’ She linked to him. ‘This is so freaking boring.’
‘Tell me about it.’ He shook the hand of yet another vampire. ‘And they all say exactly the same thing, it’s like listening to a broken record.’
Blaze sighed and counted the remaining vampires. There was ten in total and she waited impatiently for each to file past Cole and out of the chamber.
“Finally they’re gone.” She said allowed and got up to approach Cole. “So what does it feel like being the new Master?”
“It feels great.” He replied. “And I can feel everyone in my head, it one of the strangest things I’ve ever felt.”
Blaze laughed. “You’ll get used to it. Either that or it’ll drive you insane.” Then she grinned at him, “Though it looks like it’s already too late for you.”
He glared at her, but she could still see the smile in his eyes. “Like you can talk.”
She laughed again, but once it faded they stood there in silence, neither sure what to say.
It was Blaze who finally broke the silence. “Well I guess this is goodbye.” She said sadly.
“I guess it is.” Cole replied.
They stood there for a bit longer, then Blaze laughed, causing a confused look to come across Cole’s face. “What are you laughing about?”
“It just that this is so depressing and for the whole time we’ve know each other I don’t think we’ve ever been this depressed.”
Cole smiled. “I guess your right. But I can’t help it.” He sighed. “I’m going to miss you Blaze.”
“I’ll miss you too. But it’s not like we’ll never see each other again, I’ll make sure I keep in touch.” She hugged him and buried her face in his shirt, trying to hide the tears that came unwanted to her eyes.
Cole hugged her back and they stayed like that for what seemed like an age, each unwilling to break the embrace, unwilling to let the other go.
It was only when Zee Zee flew in that they reluctantly let go of each other. “Are you ready to go mistress?” She asked Blaze. “I’ve made sure everything’s ready.”
She flew over to Cole and hovered just in front of his face. “I wish you luck.” She said simply, before going to land on Blaze’s shoulder.
“Make sure you take good care of the coven.” Blaze said to Cole. “And if you ever need my help, don’t hesitate to call.” She gave him one last, quick hug and kissed him on the cheek, before tuning and walking away. Refusing to look back for fear she would never be able to walk away again.
