Copy of the question I posted on yahoo answers:
I'm writing a vampire story. Any ideas on good powers to give my vamps?
I'm writing a vampire story.
My vamps will be organised into different bloodlines. with each bloodline having a certain sort of power. Can anyone suggest what these powers should be?
One of the answers I received:
Give them the power to destroy tired, over-used, beaten-to-death & ripped off fads in pulp fiction and inspire people to come up with a fresh idea every now and then.
The e-mail I then sent that person:
In regard to your answer to my question (Vampire powers)
your answer: Give them the power to destroy tired, over-used, beaten-to-death & ripped off fads in pulp fiction and inspire people to come up with a fresh idea every now and then.
Vampire stories have been around for centuries and i have been writing stories in this category since way before twilight made it so popular. It is not "Beaten-to-death" or a "fad", vampire stories have been around for a long time and will continue for a long time after the twilight hype has died down. Just because a story contains a popular theme does NOT mean that it is not fresh. If someone wrote about real people instead of vamps would you say it is "tired, over-used, beaten-to-death & ripped off"? No i don't think you would! And anyway there is FAR more room for individuality and inventiveness in this genre than there is in many others. So please think before spouting a load of pointless rubbish to someone who is actually trying to achieve something. Not only is it rude, but it just goes to show how pointless your own life is and how thoughtless and under thought your opinions are.
Hmmmmm, I think I might have been in a bad mood.
