Chapter 2

"Relax," she told the king. "It is I, the one you sent for. I am Morana. Tell me where to find this demon."

Chapter 2

"I am afraid it is not that simple," the king, who was a younger man- probably late twenties, informed Ana. "The demon which you are in search of is stronger than most. He looks as though he is the devil himself."
"Close, but not quite," she mumbled under her breath. When the king looked at her questioningly, she continued much louder, "This a demon I have been searching for, and I will be the one to take it down and on my own. I shall need no assistance from you."
"Please, slayer, it is only befitting that I send with you my largest army," the king argued.
"No," Ana shook her head. "Save your men. They all have families to come home to. If they were to follow me, I would not be able to assure you that even one man would make it home alive for this demon is very vicious and will stop at nothing to kill anything that moves."
"I have seen this myself and understand, but surely one woman cannot take down such a foul beast," the king looked her over, assessing her. Ana didn't look nearly as strong as she was. To the human eyes, she looked like a tall, scrawny woman. However, she was much better than that.
"I'm afraid that if you send troops with me, I will not fight this creature for you. I know what I am talking about, and I assure you I am much stronger than I look," she crossed her arms defiantly and shifted all her weight to her left leg.
The king glanced away, and she could see the anger in his eyes. He wanted to argue with with her, but he was thinking about his country. Ana admired how strongly he cared about his people. Not many rulers thought this way. Not many cared about anyone but themselves.
"I agree to your terms, though I give you one day. If you are not back the day after tomorrow before sundown, then I am sending my troops."
"Fine," she nodded. She could get the deed done in less than a day, she was sure of it. She started for the door.
“You are leaving now? Won’t you rest up first? It was quite a long journey here.”
Ana frowned. “You mean you called upon me, yet you know not about my abilities? Look, I don’t need to rest. I’m leaving now.” She pushed open the door and walked outside. Looking around, she tried to sense from which direction the beast was in. Once she caught the scent, she took off, running at her top speed. She wanted to get this done with now.

Damage, destruction, chaos. There was nothing the demon loved more. Of course, watching the women and children cry as their husbands and fathers were killed right before their eyes. Blood. He needed more, now! With a devilish grin, he ripped the roof off of the house where he could smell the blood pumping through their veins.
Screams met his ears, which wet his appetite even more. He towered over the village and the people were like little dolls in his massive hands. Picking up the only man of the group, he took great pleasure in snapping him in half before devouring him whole. He had three adult women and seven little kids to chose from. Who would be next? Picking up the oldest child, he debated if he wanted to play with his meal. Playing with his food was one of his favorite activities.
“Hey!” Ana called as she jumped up and spun kicked the demon in the face. He dropped the kid and face planted into the ground. Ana reached out and caught the kid before he landed as she soared back to the ground.
She gave the kid back to the parent and told them to run. Not that it mattered to her what happened. They would just be in the way if they stayed. Facing off against the demon, she jumped up and landed on top of the demon’s head. Pushing it farther into the earth, forming a giant crater.
He started laughing as he got up and flung his head. Ana flipped in the air and landed gracefully before running at him and knocking him off his feet, but kicked his foot up and caught her, throwing her into the trees. Ana used her feet to push off from a tree and jump back towards the demon.
“Why, if it isn’t Morana. You are still alive?” he smirked as he transformed into his human self. His shaggy blonde locks blew in the wind and his piercing red eyes stared at her with amusement. To many girls, the demon would come across as quite handsome. He used his good looks and charm to lure many girls into liking him before killing him.
Ana couldn’t toy with him today. She needed to just get the job done. It would bring her great pleasure in destroying him. He was close to her father, and anyone associated with that psycho maniac deserved to die.
In a split second, she was behind him with a dagger in her hand, ready to strike. But, he caught her wrist and whipped her around. “Oh come on. This is how you treat a brother?” he chuckled softly.
She shook him off of her, “You are not my brother, no matter how much you considered me to by your sister.” She wanted so much to be able to forget about the horrid memories this man had given her throughout the years.
The time had come for her to use her more powerful attacks. Pulling out her scythe, she twirled it in one hand before slashing at the demon. It caught his shoulder and demon blood splattered the front of her outfit. Ana chuckled a little as he clutched her arm in pain.
“Don’t tell me I’m too much for you to handle?” she smirked as she ran at him again with the scythe, slashing the air. He was quick, she’ll give him that, but so was Ana. As she slashed at him again, she used her speed to run behind him before he could blink and stabbed him with her sword through the back.
He fell forward and landed on his face. Ana walked over to him to pull out the sword. The job was done. She sheathed her sword and went to get her scythe. Suddenly, he had his hand around her ankle. “Did you really think I’d be that easy to get rid of?” He started changing into his demonic self with Ana still in his grip.
Ana cursed. She had been too cocky. He threw her against the ground, but he didn’t let go. He lifted her back up into the air and did it again and again. She could feel a few of her ribs break, but she never had time to scream in pain. She managed to grab her dagger and cut his fingers off, though she nicked her own skin in the process. He dropped her as he yelled in protest. She scurried into the brush. At this rate, she would be the one who would be dead.
Ana hid behind a tree as the demon crashed into them all and was knocking them down. She had really upset him. Great, she tried to think of a way to win this fight. You know how in movies, the hero always comes up with something at the last minute? Well, that didn’t apply here. Ana was coming up empty.
The demon uprooted the tree she had been hiding behind and laughed menacingly. She flinched back as she awaited my demise. “To think the daughter of all that is evil cowers before me!” he laughed.
Unexpectedly, a young man in a blue cape appeared out of nowhere and sliced the demon in half. His sword was made from the one thing that we were weak against, heated silver. The silver weakened all demons like kryptonite does to superman. The blade that is always hot, heats the demon’s flesh and burns them on the spot.
The putrid smell of burning demon flesh is beyond any smell imaginable, and as the scent hit Ana’s nose, the urge to throw up overwhelmed her. All she wanted to know was whom this person was, and how he knew the weakness. Was he an ally or a foe? Whichever it was, Ana needed to decide fast, as he was fast approaching.
