UFC Undisputed 2009

I recently picked up UFC Undisputed 2009 for the Playstation 3. What can I say to describe this game? I know.....FRIGGIN' SWEET! I am a huge MMA otaku (yes, you can be an otaku of other cool stuff. ) and have been waiting aimlessly for this game forever. If you want a cool fighting/sports (other than the usual ones) game to play, this is definitely it. If you don't know much about MMA and just want a cool game to play, check this out. I'm gonna go into fanboy mode and talk about this game some.

You start off with over 80 guys in 5 different weight classes. I got the pre-order, so I got a code for two more fighters to download. Many of the top names in the UFC are in this game. There are fan faves like Matt Hughes, Georges St.Pierre, Diego Sanchez, BJ Penn, Kenny Florian, Brock Lesnar, Anderson Silva, Forrest Griffin, Rampage Jackson, Rich Franklin, and (of course) Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell. There are a few UFC fighters not in this game, such as Hall of Famers Randy Couture and Royce Gracie. That's kinda disappointing. There are also three hidden fighters. They are the co-owners of the TapouT brand, Skyscrape, Mask (r.i.p.), and Punkass. These guys all actually train in MMA. Their gear they wear is regular clothes that they normally wear. I'm not gonna say how to unlock them. You can find that out for yourself.

This game is uber-realistic looking and true to the sport. The controls are steep but pretty easy to learn. You can also make your own fighter to play in Career Mode or to take online. In the Create-a-Fighter Mode, you start off by giving your guy the usual. (Name,Age,Hometown and Place fighting out of.) You then pick a striking type and grappling type for him. You have three choices for each. Each one having specific moves your fighter can do. In the striking category, you have Boxing, Muay Thai, or Kickboxing. For Grappling, you choose from Wrestling, Judo, or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. You then divide up points into your stats. You have stats for 3 Main areas and several smaller areas. Your three main ones are Strength, Speed, and Endurance. In Career Mode, the higher you get in one area the effects the other two later on. Your smaller stats are: Striking Off. and Def.; Takedown Off. and Def; Ground Off. and Def.; Clinch Off. and Def.; and Submission Off. and Def.

This game has very few flaws with it. I think the biggest one that I can think of is that you can KO someone a lot easier than should really happen. Other than that there are some small issues with how some of the punches and kicks land. You sometimes get KO'd by a part of the arm or leg that you shouln't get KO'd by. Like getting hit with the wrist of someone when they punch, or their thigh on a kick. There's no real problems in the other areas, though.

Anyway, if you have a PS3 or X-Box 360, check this out. You may get hooked by a game that is definitely "As Real As It Gets."
