Resident Evil movies discussion

Well this being not really a place to write this, it was actually the closest to it, because the games are Capcom and that means Japanese made, so it makes some sense.

What I am going here are the Resident Evil games and the movies, but mostly how it was transferred to the movies. For those who don't know Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan) is a famous survival horror game. It was one of those that set revolution in that industry. It is not only scary and fun, it also has a pretty good plot and story. For those who want to know more, you can ask or find it out yourself.

Now about the movies.. Ah, what to say... The first movie came out in 2002 if I remember right. By that time there were several RE games so they already could make a decent plot based on that, but instead they went overboard only using up references from the game and actually using the complete new storyline there. The characters were all messed up and no one was there from the original game. The things from the games were only fan service based (not the perverted one, fan service can also be something else as long as it pleases the fans) but it was badly used. That is until the very end where they left us with a big cliffhanger in which every RE fan just had to wait and see the new movie.

Overall, it was actually pretty decent. The presentation was slow moving so it added to that scary factor, but it was very badly made for that time and even the original RE influences were not used in the right way. It was all until the next movie where they would change all that...

Moving on, the second movie and I must say the best one by that in my opinion. It was a direct sequel to the first one and the only in the series to actually show progression in the story, not only to bump something and be like "How that happened??". In this one they actually go somewhat more in the plot and take the story and plot from the second and third Resident Evil game (by even bringing up the Nemesis, oh yeah!!).

So all in all, this one was pretty good, but it still had some flaws. They could have used the characters better, especially by adding more from the original game and combining them with plot there. Still it is best one that came out, so who am I to complain.. It was even scary the first time I watched it (I was in sixth grade I think... scary and spooky times).

Now this one is where the story gets funny.. It completely changes and by now you pretty much are screwed if you hope to see anything related to games. The whole world is now effected and there are only handful of survivors. It also has some unexplained events, like how in the world does the sand cover up the whole Vegas and turn it into something unexpected? I know that there is virus, but what it effects the climate?
Well anyway, from now on there are many of these events that just show, but aren't even explained. But we are here for the action, right? Oh yeah, this one is full of it!

The story itself is silly and while it includes some original RE characters (like Claire Redfield) no one of them really make up for the original personalities and not even the looks, so by all means they could just name the characters something else. It is not enough of a fan service if you just put up a name there for a character that has nothing to do with the original one!
Well overall, this one was a mixed bag.. Yup, nothing special, but also not really bad, it had it's moments, even if they are silly ones.

After this one I pretty much gave up. The story is getting only worse and worse and guess what? It is not even scary anymore! I seriously watched this at night with my headphones and alone in the dark and was just like "Meh...".

The original games were also getting pretty different and not scary, but this one is a special cake. They have included Wesker and Chris this time, but I... I don't know what they were thinking by choosing these actors, really! Wesker is more or less alright, could be better. (in both how he looks and personality), but Chris!! Seriously?! He is nothing like him!
They messed up that pretty bad and also all the other random characters (by the way each of these movies gets its own random supporting characters but juts that most of them die) where they do have some nice variations, but it feels like unfinished.
What is also weird how they use some of the enemies from RE5, but don't actually explain anything about them here. It feels confused! And not to mention, they have used "same exact" moveset and even dialogue for the Wesker battle. That is however for the half of it, the other half just plays weird and seriously it has to be one of the worst endings to one of the most awesome villains that that is!

And yes, again this leaves us in a cliffhanger. I... don't know what they are going to do after this. Maybe they will take better turns but I seriously don't think so.
I also forgot to mention that the whole four movies are happening in USA, which is not bad, but the problem is that the fourth one should have been happening in Tokyo, like they said in the previous movie. And they actually do, just that it is for like first ten minutes and then everything that was building up at the end of third movie just disappears.
Lastly I want to say that while this movie is totally confusing and weird in these terms, it still uses some pretty good graphic effects. Like you can see "3D" so if nothing, watch it to have some fun while not getting scared.

This concludes my discussion about Resident Evil movies. Feel free to leave comments or any questions if you have and once again thanks for the support. Have a nice weekend~!
