Anyone heard about the anime Another? Or maybe, manga or novel? Well this novel (not 100% sure if it was in light novel format) was first released in Japan in 2009. Later it also got manga adaptation which was soon followed by an anime (which is still on going). There was also rumored for a live action movie which is about to be released on Summer of 2012. And which horrors are one of the best than Japanese? Genre of this heavily falls on horror and thriller.
I just watched today the first episode and was positively surprised. The anime is very catchy at first and it does make you want to watch it until the end. (which is a most case with anime this type, but this one is special even among that).
The story follows a young guy who was transferred in this one town away from Tokyo where he lived before to attend a new school because of some family issues. But that town has dark secrets, especially regard the school that he goes into. 28 years (If I remember correctly... And why does this remind me on the horror movies 28 days and 28 weeks later?) ago a mystery death occurred. A young, beautiful, smart and sweet girl who was just about to go to her 9th grade, died.
That is much for the beginning and I must say it does give a good tone about it, especially the atmosphere. It is well done and that combined with music and characters gives you that chilling, scary feeling (especially if you are watching this alone).
Who wants to try a different type of an anime that is less funny and more serious and spooky, then this is the right one. Even so there are STILL some typical anime characteristics which is a good touch. (like with High school of the dead, even among all these zombies there are ecchi and comedy moments. Just that this anime is not in that direction and far more serious, but still has some refreshing elements..)
